Decreased Fetal Movement

Advice? Reassurance? Talk some sense into me?? I’m 23 weeks along and have been feeling flutters for a while but wasn’t really counting/ tracking them because I wanted to be sure it was her and not just gas (I felt them mostly when I was gassy and honestly am gassy a lot so 🤷🏽‍♀️). About a week ago I was absolutely sure they were little kicks and flutters and this week they finally progressed to the point where other people could feel her move if they put their hand on my stomach and were patient. It takes a while sometimes and I have to be in the right position and hold fairly still. I finally started counting with a kick tracker app a few days ago and felt like she was moving a really good amount. Cut to yesterday and today and it’s gone down so much. I’m not sure if I should freak out or not because I only so recently started to really feel her and don’t even know what her normal is yet. But we went from her reaching ten kicks in about 3 minutes when she was really active to her most active today being ten kicks in like 7-8 minutes. The frequency and strength of them generally also feels like it’s decreased. What do I do? I’m pretty low-income and don’t know if I can afford a whole workup if this is nothing and I’m overreacting. She is moving and I do get some good, strong kicks from her every now and then if I lie down right and hold still for long enough. This might sound dumb and I don’t want to stress out and have my anxiety affect her if I’m wrong but I was really looking forward to her getting bigger and stronger and more active and moving more. Is it too early to feel like something’s wrong?

Its a bit early for kick counts, as she's still got a lot of room to move around. She may have just moved away. Google says start counting kicks at 28 weeks, which is the beginning of the 3rd trimester. As early as 26 weeks if you're high risk

Hi ! First you should not start counting kicks until later around 30 weeks! If you are unsure best thingvis go to the near labor and delivery hospital and have thme check your baby!! This happened to me exactly at my 24 weeks i felt strong kicks and next days she disappeared completely! I went crazy so i had to go to hospital to make sure she was fine! It was the very stressful experience but she was well!! Now I am in my 29 weeks and i am feeling more regular kicks and movements!!! It also depends on the position of your placenta! Mine is anterior so i ts harder to feel stronger kicks but as baby growing you will feel them more and more!!!!

I didn’t feel kicking until around 28 weeks. So I wouldn’t worry just yet. You could try drinking orange juice and laying on your back right after that was recommended to me to get the baby kicking. Again it is early to be feeling kicking so don’t get discouraged if you don’t.

You won’t necessarily have your track until 30 weeks I believe

If your ever unsure just go to triage, ngl sometimes it can be embarrassing because when u get there and they put you onto monitor baby moves but better to be aafe!

@Eloise i agree with you!!

Even when you're tracking movement after 28 weeks, they say to look for 10 kicks, taps, wiggles, rolls etc within one to two hours if you're concerned movement has decreased. At 23 weeks babies are still so small and haven't developed a pattern yet, so I wouldn't be too concerned. The fact you're already feeling so much movement is good! Where I am located, they wouldn't usually put a monitor on baby until approx 27 weeks because interpreting them before that gestation when they don't yet have a pattern can usually be unreliable, but they may fetal doppler you if you were to present feeling super concerned.

I went to the hospital at 24 weeks and as people have said above, I was advised baby is too small for a real pattern of movement yet. They can easily move and change positions which make it more difficult to feel. After 28-30 it should be more obvious and easier to keep track. Of course if you’re worried then go up x

My third baby at 26 weeks went ‘quiet’ so I called my midwife and she seen me down my GP’s, had a feel on his position and listened in to his heart rate, she said baby is still actually really small so they do have a lot of room still to move around, the reassurance was great though x

I have a very active baby but have noticed when I am more active doing more throughout the day the kicks dramatic decrease. I think the Amina of kicks varies each day

Thank you everyone! This helps a lot ❤️❤️
