Positive GBS

I tested positive for GBS at 36 weeks and the doctor has just an email mentioning they would give me antibiotics during delivery. Is it pretty common or do I need to be worried? Please let me know if you have delivered or know anyone who has delivered with GBS. Any more precautions I should be taking?

As far as I know is very common. I tested positive too. It is not dangerous to adults at all. But it is to babies. I was told they give you antibiotics when you’re in delivery.

It's common. I tested positive with my first pregnancy, had IV antibiotics throughout labor, and she is now 12 years old and doing great. With this last pregnancy, I didn't get the chance to be tested so when I had to go in for my induction at 37 weeks they proactively treated me with IV antibiotics throughout labor just in case I was positive again. Aside from her being very small due to IUGR and struggled to maintain her body temp for the first 10 days due to having no body fat, she's doing great at home at 18 days old now.

Thanks Kelli! Good to know baby girl is doing great now :)

Had this with my 3rd child. They just put antibiotics in your IV during delivery so baby doesn't come into contact with the active infection.

This was a helpful post comment section cause I just got my results back as well and it’s positive. I was like wait whaaat but knowing this is a common thing makes me feel less anxious about it

I spoke to the advice nurse as well and she said it’s pretty common and the antibiotics should ensure everything goes well.

Super common. Antibiotics is all you need… I had it w my first
