Suspecting twins! First time mom

Hi there! Curious if any of you didn’t know you were having multiples until your 20 week scan? I am 17 weeks along and thus far have evidence of one baby, but I really think I may be having more than one based on off the cuff opinions of healthcare professionals and based on my symptoms and bump size thus far. I know I sound stupid because pregnancy looks and feels different on everyone, but just curious if any of you didn’t know until you were 20 weeks along. 😊

What symptoms are you having? I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant with twins, but we found out at 6 weeks by ultrasound. I have to say that bump size isn't always an indicator, I feel like I was showing more at this point with my son than I am now with twins. Have you had an ultrasound and did they look very well or just saw a baby and stopped looking? I know there are some people who somehow missed a second baby their whole pregnancy even with regular ultrasounds, so it's possible they missed one. Did you get a NIPT test? If there were twins, the results would come back weird, so that would be one indication.

I had no pregnancy symptoms with my twins and didn’t find out I was pregnant until I was already 8 weeks which I think is atypical for twin pregnancies. It was very obviously twins on the first ultrasound we went to though. What symptoms are you having and what are the doctors saying?

Congratulations! 🎉 thank you for that insight it was all very helpful to me. I have had persistent nausea lasting through 2nd trimester thus far, debilitating lower back pain, so much fatigue. Multiple coworkers in the healthcare industry have asked if I’m sure I’m not carrying more than one. 😂 I did have the NIPT test and nothing was noteworthy. Eager for the 20 week anatomy scan!

Hmm. They told me twins at my 8 week scan. I was very very hungry so I thought it was a big boy 🤣

I had all those symptoms with both of my pregnancies and my nausea was actually more persistent with my son than it has been this time. With the NIPT not having any issues I honestly doubt it's twins because it should've come back inconclusive if you were tested for one baby and there's two, but I would mention your concerns at your anatomy scan and ask them to look really well.

Thank you ladies! Appreciate your insight

I don't think you would have NIPT results that were weird of the twins were identical... however when I went in for my very first ultrasound (8 or 10 weeks i dont remember) they knew before they even got fully started because they could hear two different heartbeats right off the bat. So in all honestly I think they would have been able to tell if there was more than one. I also had zero morning sickness with my pregnancy so I wouldn't rely on your harsh morning sickness as a sign. However, if you are hoping that there are two babies in there I have my fingers crossed for you and wish you all the best! 😀

Thank you! 😊
