Midwife

I know it’s still very very early but has anyone spoken to a midwife yet? It said on their website I’ll hear from them before 8 weeks but when I called them they said they’ll try do it before 10. Time couldn’t move slower if it tried 🤣

I can’t even self refer in my area until 6 weeks! X

I had a call 2 days after I submitted my self referral form to arrange my booking appointment which will be at 9.5 weeks

@Olivia I didn’t even know you could self refer? Is that for EPU? if so we can’t self refer either 😭. The wait is killing me. I feel like after 12 weeks it might go remotely fast. I’m a student nurse and this time of year is slow for me as it is 🤣

I self referred just before 5 weeks. They emailed me an appointment without 48hrs for when I’m 7 weeks. I think it mostly comes down to how busy your area is at the time hun

@Sophie how did you self refer? Is that to EPU?

@Emily you self refer to the hospital/maternity unit you want to go to. You do it online. Google self referral maternity and the area you live. Or you can go through your GP. You usually get a booking appointment around 10-12 weeks

@Tanith where I live it’s on a website called my pregnancy notes you sign up etc register and they’ll call you when they’re ready to speak to you basically. I’ve done all that but I was hoping to at least have something by now saying they recieved it. In their website it says call if you haven’t heard back by 8 weeks so I’ll give it another 2 then give them a ring.

I did the self referral thing couple of days ago,, still havent heard back, but I’m still 5 weeks, they usually contact you to book an appt when you are 8-10 weeks, i hate waiting 😂

@Lugain honestly same. I feel like it’s been months already when in reality I’ve known for 2 weeks 🤣

You can’t self refer to the EPU normally, most trusts you need referred by the GP or midwife. The EPU normally only see you if you are having problems in first trimester such as bleeding or recurrent miscarriage (well that is how it is in my area) You need to refer yourself to the midwife’s and they will see you normally before 10 weeks!

@Erin thank you. 🫶🏼

Same I called them today because my GP told me that they referred me and I’ve got a appointment for the 24th of February but no midwife has called me and the GP said the midwife will call me so she started talking about how I need to refer myself and I told her I’ve already got an appointment to see a midwife at the end of this month I was so confused.

@Savannah that’s so strange! Keep us updated.

In my area I can only contact them after 6 weeks pregnant so I will do it on Monday

I self reffered to Whittington hospital, they replied in 2-3 days by email and said that they will call within 10 days to book my first appointment, which ideally happens in 8-10 weeks. I'm week 5.5 now. There will be a midwife consultation and blood test. First scan will be scheduled for after 12 weeks if no complications
