Positive but still want my home birth, if I can!

Hello, Found out today I’m positive (37 weeks) but, after hours of going through research papers and looking at stats, feel a homebirth is still an option. Has anyone else done this? My midwife says they do it all the time, but just looking for reassurance and positive stories. Thanks

Hi 👋. Im 39 weeks pregnant with GBS. You can still request a home birth if you’re GBS positive. You need to speak to your midwife about this. They will do a home check and risk assessment and then order all the items to be dropped off at your home. You will then have an appointment with an advanced midwife to have it signed off since it’s deemed outside of guidelines. You can’t be administered any antibiotics at home and would then probably need to go to hospital for the 12/24 hour observations of your baby for any gbs related symptoms. I only know this as that’s what’s happened with me however I have only put this in place due to labouring very fast in previous pregnancies not because I want a home birth. I hope this helps.

I’m in the same position as you. Currently 38 weeks and found out I was gbs positive, I have gone backwards and forwards about it all, and read Sara wickhams book on strep B. I have decided to proceed with my home birth and go in for observations with the baby straight after xx
