Hospital

Hi guys, Has anyone given birth at Good Hope recently and wish to share their honest opinions? I am still fairly new to Tamworth and on my first midwife appointment I wasn’t given an option of where to go I was told GH. If I’m honest I’ve seen a lot of negativity about it on here as well as other sites, which is making me quite nervous as my first pregnancy was in Bristol and I had a great birth for a first time. But being in new environment I’m feeling nervous for the next 4-8 weeks of what to expect when I get into hospital. GH antenatal ward seems okay, people are pleasant enough but anyone’s honest opinions would be great ☺️ and any advice on what is vital to bring with me? Do hospitals provide hats, milk etc any more?

I had a baby there February 2024 and January 2025. Both were very different birth experiences, one was a 5 day long induction followed by a 5 day stay after birth, and one was a very fast spontaneous labour, out on the same day. I couldn’t fault any of the staff either time, they were all great. I took my own milk so unsure on if they provide but we were given hats both times.

I can’t comment directly as I’ve not had little one yet but we’re the same between Burton and GHH. Personally GHH have been good for us with appointments so far and been very thorough. From a professional capacity (Paramedic), I think GHH are good and have always been really appropriate. However, the only thing that concerns me is planned C-Sections go to Heartlands and there is a few conditions that GHH can’t cope with which would result in transfer to Heartlands again. Whilst Heartlands again is a good hospital, it’s not a place particularly id want to go and I don’t like the thought of being separated potentially from my baby if they required specialist care. I’m going to continue with my care at GHH (due 20 week scan soon) if there any sign I may have complications or require a section then I’m going to transfer to George Elliot or Burton. X

I had my first via emergency c section in Feb 2023, can't fault the team at all. They made me feel at ease in a really stressful time. I gave birth in Nov 2024 and they were fab, I was in for a week as I had an induction and honestly it was such a nice experience. The only 'issue' is that the aftercare is a little slow, I asked them to sterilise my bottles and they didn't bring them back round for another 2hrs even after asking plus whenever I asked for pain relief or updates from the Dr as I had to have an iron transfusion it was such a long wait, but that also might be because I couldn't go anywhere so felt longer😂 However, I'd definitely go there again if I had another. They provide hats and a little blanket, unsure on milk I think they do but only for specific reasons. When you go to give birth take a long phone charger, a pillow and your own blanket makes it a little easier x

I had my little girl there in August, induction ending in emergency c-section. I was consultant led throughout and didn’t have the best experience with the consultants as I consistently felt like I wasn’t being listened to. However all other staff were amazing, the midwives and care assistants were brilliant. Everyone involved in the c-section made me feel so comfortable and I can’t fault the aftercare either. I ended up really enjoying my birth experience there

Had my first there in November 2021. Never had a problem. I’ve got no negative comments to make. Having my second there in July 😊

I didn’t have a good experience there tbh! Noah was born February 2021

You have the legal right to choose where you want to give birth. I also had reservations about GH (live in Tamworth )and chose to go to the Royal Derby and was well looked after. It’s a newer hospital and has everything in one place. About another 12 mins beyond Burton hospital.

I gave birth to my little girl here in November 2024, I had an emergency c section and the midwife’s were fab! I can’t fault the student midwife who I had either, aftercare could have been a tiny it better but overall was a lovely experience x

I had my daughter at GHH in July 2024 via semi-planned c section. I was consultant led through my pregnancy and it was okay ish experience, c section was great, it wasn’t emergency so I felt relaxed although they don’t routinely perform c sections there and all planned ones need to be at Heartlands, I was already admitted so they didn’t want to transfer me. I had to stay for 5 days post birth due to postpartum preeclampsia and aftercare was truly shocking. They were understaffed and mixed up my medication. So it was mixed bag, if I was lucky enough to have another baby I am unsure I would choose them again.

I’ve had my boy there in July 2024 via emergency C section. I went in with leaking waters and I was kept in for over 24h before the decision was made to deliver my baby via C section. The whole time the staff were amazing, lovely midwife’s they proper took care of me before and after having my boy. I can not fault anything, everyone was lovely and so supportive. Although the whole thing was a traumatic experience the staff have done everything they could to make it as pleasant as possible 😊

You can choose your hospital babe… speak to your midwife. Just give them a call and say your preference is whatever hospital!! But I had an induction at Good Hope in 2023. Staff were amazing, ended up in a C Section through our choice but cannot fault any of the staff or midwife’s they were utterly amazing, had the same nurses in my csection as I did throughout my induction!! But deffo speak to your midwife if you’re not happy! Xxx

I had both babies there, 7 years ago and November 2024. I have mixed opinions to be honest but you should make your own mind up, some have great experiences. All I would say is always advocate for yourself and your baby. If you want answers then definitely do what you can to get them x

You can choose where you give birth. You can change. I could choose either George Eliot or Coventry and went with GE as it was closer so if you don’t like the sound of it you can opt to change

It’s not any of the ones you’ve mentioned but I can highly recommend George Eliot in Nuneaton, not too far from you. The care was absolutely amazing start to finish when I had my little girl last March x
