The f… word

Almost too embarrassed to post but my (probably a bit neutospicy) son is 21 months and in full swing of imitating and picking up new words all the time. And although I have said this from the start, my partner has still sworn out of habit eg when dropping something and of course lo and behold my boy has started to say that word too. I am actually so so so annoyed about that as I feel this would have been avoidable. I’ve been reading that ignoring it is the answer but somehow he knows it’s a big word and has now made it a game to throw things on the floor and saying the f word. Ignoring it seems impossible. Any hope that this can be undone? Has anyone got any tips how do deal with this? Thanks from a tired mum x

My hubby does the same, so I have words to replace is so instead of the f word say fluff and instead of the s word I say snip and snacks and eventually it's help. My daughter repeats words like snaps, snips, snakes, sugar, fluff, fluffy, flakes, flakes, flips. Same with the words until it's 2nd nature, then I'm switching it up with harder words like arse or stay simple

It would have been avoidable for a while, but not forever. There's no undoing it, but what I can offer is that while my 2yo cannot seem to help himself when he's got a naugthy word in his head, my 4yo generally can. So, that kind of self-control does develop, and probably within the next few years (depending on where he's at developmentally). Sometimes, if my son really keeps it up, I'll tell him that's not polite enough language for our house, and send him out to play in the backyard. With all of the other things that go on in a day, I can only hear "booty" so many times before I need a break. 😅

Thanks mums 🙏🏼 x
