⭐️ Propess induction ⭐️

Currently due to have my induction this week and have been suggested that I would need the propess pessary. What is the normal pathway if after 24 hours it hasn’t worked? Surely they don’t just jump straight to a C-section?

The idea of the pessary is to soften and dilate the cervix. If the pessary does nothing after 24h they may just do another one for another 24h. They might also try a foley balloon which does the same thing (hopefully). If you’ve dilated a little bit - enough to be able to break your waters, they will suggest that and see if it stimulates labour. If that doesn’t work, they may start you on the oxytocin drip. I think the only circumstance where they might suggest going to cc-section right after pessary is if they try it twice and you haven’t dilated or softened at all…although that’s probably v unlikely.

No they won’t just go straight to c section, with my first born they tried the pessary twice and told me to walk around and use the bounce on the birthing ball to help
