Combi feeding
Hi all!
So we’ve been combi feeding since around 2 weeks old. Our routine normally goes like this -
Wake up and breastfeed all day about every 1.5/2 hours.
Bedtime round 6pm and he will have a formula bottle. I will then pump that feed once he’s gone down which is normally by 7pm.
He sleeps through so I set an alarm for around 2am and will pump and then the next feed will be breast again.
For context he is 3 months old now. I’ve always found that my supply has always dwindled in the afternoon, and no matter how many times I put him to the breast it’s just never enough for him. We got to a point yesterday where he just would not go for a nap, going 7 hours without one and I think it’s because he was hungry and wasn’t getting what he wanted from me. It’s really effecting me because I love breastfeeding but I feel as though I may need to introduce a formula bottle in the middle of the day or afternoon to help, but then I know that it could effect my supply even more. I’m at a loss ladies and I could really do with some advice!
Picture just because he’s cute 🥰
At 3 months your milk supply regulates which means you may see a drop because your body has sort of worked out what baby needs. They do also cluster feed a lot at this age because they are growing. It can be an exhausting stage where you basically walk around with them attached all day. As long as they have plenty of wet nappies you're all good. It may also be worth seeing a local breast feeding team, they're usually in family hubs once a week to just check their latch is still good. That's usually the one thing that can cause an issue with how much they're getting. Also try to bare in mind. Breast milk is digested quicker so they will never go as long as when they have formula.
