Fetal Growth

I am a FTM, currently 32 weeks pregnant. Had a growth scan today and baby is measuring small with a large head circumference in the 90 percentile, and Femur only in the 10 percentile. I’ve been googling - which I really shouldn’t have and now I’m losing my mind!! Is anyone else in this situation or has anyone been through this and had their baby? Would love to know stories. Thank you

I haven’t been in your position but I would say that scans aren’t an exact science depending on whether your baby decides to play ball or are curling up/in an awkward position. I had to have growth scans with my first and he was a healthy 7lb8oz, 2nd was weighing under 50th percentile all the way through and ended up being 9lb.

Hopefully it’ll all work itself out in your final weeks. Good luck! x

I didn’t have the complete same, but at 37 weeks they told me my baby was measuring small. Which had dropped off the constant percentile he was originally growing at . I then had him at 39 weeks (2 weeks later) & he was over 8lbs. So like the above said, sometimes they’re not exact and can be unreliable. I’d try not to worry, and I’m guessing you will be back for a review scan soon. Where hopefully they can put you at ease. Never google, it only gives the worse case scenarios and we allow ourselves to believe that’s us. Be kind to yourself, hopefully your next scan will reassure you x

I had growth scans every two weeks from 28 weeks and each time I was told that my LO was measuring big on her stomach and short on her legs. Also got told she was small and only on the 9th percentile. My last scan was 48 hours before I delivered her and was told she was still showing disproportionate stomach and leg lengths. Was also told she would be at maximum 6lbs 10oz. She was born a healthy and well proportioned 7lbs 7oz two days later. Had no obvious issues. I would always take scan results with a pinch of salt as they can really depend on baby’s position and the estimation of proportions based on single length measurements.

Hi darling, I completely understand how you are feeling. I had a scan and they said baby’s head is in 5th percentile but abdomen in the 95th ……I’ve got to wait until Friday to see a specialist so I’m going out of my mind. Have you been referred to fetal medicine? I think the scans are so inaccurate I really wouldn’t worry too much but I know that’s easier said than done xxxx

My baby has fetal growth restriction, found at 20 week scan, she's been growing slowly at every 2 week scan, under 3rd percentile, I know how scary it is, ivr just been taking it day by day and scan by scan but they aren't always accurate, especially when things are measuring in different percentiles xxx

@Zara I’m not sure if I have been referred, but my scan is in 2 weeks with a consultant rather than than a midwife so maybe? I feel drained with worry but I know there is nothing I can do! Thanks for commenting 💕

@Lauren thanks for commenting 💕 It’s not so much the slow growth I’m worried about, it’s more the difference in head/femur size x

Yeah it sounds like you have been referred cus the same thing has happened with me. I did phone them up and said I was highly anxious and worrying and could they get me in sooner; they offered me Friday instead of Monday xx
