Speech!

My little one has just turned 25 months old and is barely talking says a few single words but that’s it. He has his 2 year check coming up in April and will mention it then But I’m worried is there any activities or anything I can do with him to develop his speech. Many thanks for any advice x

I’d just speak to him more. Directly so like when playing be like. This is a car and it makes this sound. This is a lion and it does this. Stuff like that. My son was the same until he hit 2 and boom he started remembering and learning words

Same here, we've been to a speech and language drop in session and have been referred to chatterbox group. I have some info in an email that the SALT ladies sent me if you'd like it?

Single words are best at this stage, avoid colours and numbers for now

My son is the same!

My little boy turned 25 months yesterday and is exactly the same singular words he only says a few like car, bottle, mum ,dad door and shoe he does put daddy car together but I can't help but wonder if he's behind in his speech his review isn't for another 2 months I think but I may contact them sooner to see if there a speech and language group , my eldest daughter was the same intill she started play group few days there a she wouldn't stop talking then I wouldn't worry to much some take longer than others

@Emma just out of interest can I ask why to avoid colours and numbers? 😊

@Alice I'm not 100% sure, just something that the speech and language ladies said to us. I think it's just to avoid confusion. Until they know the object, rather than the colour x

If anyone wants speech and language information, I'm happy to forward on

@Alice Use the names of toys and objects (e.g. grapes, car, coat) actions (e.g. run, wave, eat) and early concepts (e.g. up, big, more). Don't worry about focusing on numbers, colours and letters at this stage.this is copied from so info I received x

My son is the same and we already had his review. Health visitor was impressed with his understanding and could see him making attempts at communicating so she just advised to make life a little harder on him as in if he points to something he wants make an effort to name the object and ask him to name it. Bbc website tiny happy people can be a good source of activities and stuff to help. No doubt our kiddos will be talking their little heads off soon and we will miss the quiet 🤣

@Emma thanks for the info 😊

@Emma hi lovely. Could I please have this? I will message you my email if that’s ok xx
