Contractions help!

I’ve been in early labour since around 10am and contractions are now 7mins apart. Hospital say not to come in until they are 4-5mins apart but I’m in so much pain with each contraction. What at home pain relief can I do?

I’ve always been told 4-5 mins apart or until you can’t cope at home anymore xx I’d say if you’re struggling go in to get some pain relief xxxx

I was told to go in if I couldn't cope at home anymore with my first. You've got to get through the car ride there as well. I would follow your instincts on when you feel it's time to go in, you know your body best.

Hey, had my little one on the 7th, I went in when I was contracting between 5-7 mins due to how strong they were. And good point about the car journey. As any later for me and there's no way I could sit in the car

Honestly I was like you first time, could not cope with the pain from very early and even though was 3cm was like I’m staying here I need help. I would say though last time I was crap at utilising tools at home; paracetamol (didn’t use), tens machine (forgot), comb (wasn’t a thing last time), counter pressure (didn’t realise was a thing)…And I’ll be using all of these this time! Whatever happens you’ve got this 💪🏻 Each contraction will have a peak, count through it to the top and back down, when it ends breathe the contraction away and relax fully. Don’t hold onto the last contraction, every one is bringing you closer 💗

Let me tell you, my contractions started 4 mins apart and the journey to the hospital was HELL. I had 3 contractions back to back, go as soon as you feel like you’re close to not coping, cos the journey will be horrid and then you have to walk to the labour ward 😭 even when I told triage my contractions were 4 mins apart the only reason they told me to come in was because I thought my waters had gone, otherwise they were gonna tell me to wait at home longer and if I had, she’d have been born in my bed 🤣

And it’s not pain relief but something that helped me was when timing my contractions, watching the timer and knowing “okay there’s only 20 seconds left… 10 seconds…” etc helped me a lot. When I got to the hospital and stopped timing, it made the contraction feel never ending even tho they were the same length

Thank you everyone. I ended up going in and she was born literally an hour after arriving. Went from 5cm to giving birth within an hour. Definitely trust your instincts.

Congratulations!! Hope you’re both doing well 💪🏻♥️ Out of interest was it your second?

Thank you. Yes, it was our second. Unfortunately, we’re in the NICU as she was distressed at birth and has breathing problems at the moment. Hopefully she’ll be out soon though 🤞🏼

Sending so much love ♥️♥️♥️ You’re amazing xx
