Losing mucus plug

Has anyone been unsure that if they are starting to lose their mucus plug?? I am 38+3 and I think I am starting to lose small amounts of plug, has anyone else had the same? If so has anyone who has previously had children gone into labour shortly after this or can it take a while? First time mum here not got a clueee

You will definitely know when it is your mucus plug, as it is very aptly named. It honestly looks like a giant bogey! 😂 Even if you lose it in small pieces, it will be thick and mucus like (like a very snotty nose) rather than any sort of discharge that you have been having. I lost mine yesterday in a huge amount, and then have continued to lose even more bits of it since (I have lost lots and lots, I was surprised how much there is!) It’s frustrating, but losing the plug has no bearing on whether or not you will go into labour soon. Some people lose it very early and regenerate, and some will lose it right before! Unfortunately, it’s one of those things that could either mean things are moving along, or mean nothing at all! ❤️

@Ellie-May thanks for the reply, this helps to hear! It has been very small amounts but appears as you’ve described it feels different to the usual typical discharge for sure. When are you due if you don’t mind me asking? X

@incog No worries! I am due on Thursday so the 27/2 however, I am being induced tomorrow due to a couple of reasons. It was supposed to be today but they were too busy😫 praying that doesn’t happen again! xx

I lost a lot of mucus plug with my first and it had blood in it. About a day later went into labour. I was 40 weeks x

Your mucus plug can regenerate so if you lose little bits it can still be a long time before you go into labour. With my first I lost a little bit and then a few days later went into labour (around 41wks) and then lost it all during the labour process and it was blood streaked. This time I’ve started losing little bits here and there but I’m only 37wks now so I think I’ve still got a little while to go yet! Xx
