We completely got rid of it just after Christmas. For a year previous to that she only had it for nap and bed time. We spent pretty much the whole of December talking about that when we got back from her grandparents house we were going to get rid of the dummy. They were going in the bin because you don’t need them anymore etc… I’m also pregnant with number two which she talks about all the time so said how her baby sister might have a dummy because she’s a baby but Madeleine is a big girl. One weekend we just went for it, went totally cold turkey. She was the one who put them all in the bin and then my partner cut them up (more so for us so we couldn’t give in and get them back out!). We were absolutely petrified as had heard horror stories of things being awful for a few days but she did amazingly.
The first night she woke up and cried for about half an hour for it. We just kept giving her cuddles and giving her her bunny and koala that she sleeps with and after that she never asked for it again. I think if you prepare them for it most of them are okay and even if they’re not they are after a few days. Good luck! Xx
We got rid on Xmas eve (Santa took them with him to Give to the other babies and left her a present for them in return) she was so proud of this Xmas day morning! she cried for around 5/10 mins the first night for it and then a few times the day after but by day 3 completely stopped and forgot about it or telling people she’s a big girl. Now she has a little sister and her sisters dummy’s don’t even tempt her!
We went cold turkey over Christmas after the dentist said it was impacting on her teeth. I was dreading it as it was her comfort at night or when she got majorly worked up. We got her to put her dummies in a box and the dummy fairy came to collect it. She woke up the first night, but after that it was surprisingly easy. Not having a dummy is the new normal, even if she sees other toddlers with one. Her bed is just full with teddies now 😆Xx
Only at bed time
Mine used hers for sleep so I got the Frida dummy weaning pack. They gradually get smaller until there’s v little joy in it for them. Could easily use scissors on a normal dummy tho. It took forever for her to fall asleep without a dummy but gradually it got better. Sleep music/calm bed time stories for kids in Spotify helped!
I have a younger baby that self soothes with a dummy and if she doesn’t have one she just steals his so it’s a battle I’m gonna have to fight with the two of them at some point. I’ve wanted to take it off her since her 2nd birthday but it’s been put on hold.
Mine only generally had her dummy for sleep/ car/ last resort for tantrums etc but we just couldn’t see how we would ever be able to get rid as she was so reliant on it, particularly for sleep, and would get super upset if for some reason she couldn’t have it. Then one night we just couldn’t find it anywhere. So (while panicking big time), I told her that the dummy fairy must’ve taken it with her magic to give it to a little baby somewhere who needed one as she was now such a big girl. I told her that the dummy fairy only chose the kindest, biggest girls (my little one is obsessed with the fact she’s a “big girl”). I was so nervous and was sure it would be soooo stressful but she seemed to accept it! The first few days she asked for it a bit, especially at night, but I’d stick to the story and she’d accept it - and took great joy in telling everyone else! After a few days she literally never mentioned it again! Soooo much easier than I ever imagined it would be 🤞☺️
He only has it at night time. Tried to get rid of it last week, but gave in. I felt our son was going through enough and needed his comft (new sibling, potty training, different room at nursery)
