Sleep remedies

Looking for some better sleep remedies for my autistic toddler! He’s only 3 years old, the one thing is when he naps he naps for 2 or 3 hours and then he doesn’t want to fall asleep at night! I don’t want to give melatonin because he’s too small! what is safe? Please let me know

I had this same issue and found it helpful to shorten the nap to 1-1.5 hours. At night we try to keep the same routine, bath, book, milk, cuddles then sleep. My son only wakes up once throughout the night to get in our bed but it helped us alot. Have you tried lavender spray? I've heard that it's supposed to help put u to sleep.

@CiCi I’m do have dr teals sleeping spray but it doesn’t do anything! I’m going to have to shorten his naps or not have him nap at all because I notice when he doesn’t take a nap he goes to bed early and wakes up the next morning, it’s just been a struggle girl!

I think you’re letting him nap too long. How long is he awake after the nap before bed? My niece just turned 3. She typical takes a 1-2 hours nap and is awake 5-6 hours before bedtime. Try reducing nap time or ensuring he has 6 hours awake before bed. Kiddos his age need 10-12 hours at night and 1-2 hours during the day. I would say around 3.5-4.5 kids drop their last nap and then you move bedtime up by 30-60 minutes based on their sleep needs

@Hannah thank you girl! This is what I’m trying to do I feel so bad waking him up from his sleep but I’m going to have to figure it out because I’m so exhausted being awake so long during the nighttime!

@Mimie I seen this on Tik tok! But idk if he would do good wit the lettuce juice or bathe in, he has a sensory issue,

@Sess I hate waking my little guy from a nap too!! But I just try to do it gently and give lots of snuggles and make them feel cozy while they’re waking up. Good luck mama!

What I tried with my son when he was three was I started to cut the nap out of his routine and had a strict calming routine at night time supper,bath and then free choice hour and then bed and only thing I found was yes he still found it hard to fall asleep at night but he was asleep before 3am when normally he wasn't sleeping until at least 4am and now he's 6 and had to be put on melatonin when he was 5 and now he's asleep by midnight.
