Centiles driving me crazy!

Thank you @Reena I'm concerned as I thought babies were meant to follow a curve, not keep dropping centiles

You expect it to but ultrasound is also very user dependent and not always accurate. If it kept dropping perhaps there would be concern or it fell out of the centile window. I would discuss with your midwife/the sonographer.

Hi, my baby’s femur was measuring way behind. Measuring 24 weeks when I was 33 weeks. It was literally because me and her dad aren’t tall and my legs are really short. Her centile her dropping too but was always in range. I think it’s only a worry if it’s below 5%?

Thanks @Laura that's reassuring. Has baby been born yet? Both me and my partner are tall - im 5'9 he's 6ft so we expected baby to have long legs!

Yeah she’s two months and is fine, albeit has little arms and legs like me. Hmm, I understand your worry, can you talk to the sonographer about it? Get them to try and explain what it could mean?

My son’s femur was measuring behind, but I explained dad has short legs and I’m not overly tall and they weren’t concerned! They said the average is just a basic average, and that it’s helpful to have info on you & partner to see what the ‘norm’ is for you. My baby is 8 months now and perfectly fine 🩵

This is fine. Both my babies femur lengths always measured 2-3 weeks behind. Me and my partner are both very short and I have short legs. It's still within range ☺️

My son’s femur measured behind for all of his scans. He’s now 3.5 and in age 5-6 clothes and the tallest in his class. Your baby will be fine. Following the curve is more after they’re born as the scan measurements have such a high margin for error

Thanks everyone for your kind words 🥰 We chatted to the sonographer about it and the decrease in centiles, but she didn't have any issues. I guess its just my un-medical mind not really understanding it! Xx

We had a growth scan at 36 weeks (routine where we live) and the abdomen measurement made the overall centile drop by too many centiles since her anatomy scan so we were referred to fetal medicine. We had a repeat at 38 weeks and no concerns. They just put it down to her being so active during scans, and making it difficult to measure accurately. She arrived at 42wks with no concerns. If they were concerned at all, they'd refer to fetal medicine for a repeat scan and chat x

My son’s femur was always measuring way behind but was absolutely fine (and he’s actually quite tall for his age at 2!) same is happening again with this pregnancy.
