Peri mental health team referral

Am having an incredibly tough pregnancy with hyperemesis resulting in quite a lot of weight loss, 6 hospital admissions (lasting 4-5 days at a time) since the beginning of December requiring opiate pain relief due to an underlying chronic health condition which has been exaberateda million fold by pregnancy, severe pelvic girdle pain and sky high anxiety about our very precious and unexpected (but very much wanted) pregnancy. Today my Consultant Psychiatrist has offered to refer me to the peri-mental health team. Has anyone else been referred and what were they able to offer?

I work for adults mental health but we are attached to the mother and baby unit. They will offer you extra support and guidance especially around your mental health medication and keep an extra eye on you after birth to ensure you are managing with baby

@Francesca thanks. Not currently on medication so was a bit worried about what else they might try and offer (if anything)

I had the mental health services after my last pregnancy but should have definitely considered it throughout the pregnancy. I haven’t ever once experienced a problem in my mental health and was super naive to believe mine could plummet. I was assessed and offered talking therapies. I wasn’t pregnant so was also told that medication could be a option but it’s not the route I wanted to take. Talking therapies for me worked wonders and I would advise anyone to try it and give it ago. It for sure humbled me but most importantly helped me get to where I am today which is a much better place. You’ve got this 💪 xx
