Breast milk - fridge to freezer

Can i move breast milk that’s been in the fridge for a couple of days into the freezer if i don’t think we’ll use them by the ‘6 days in the fridge’ rule? Or do they have to be in the freezer from the get go? I don’t want to chuck them but equally not sure we’ll use them all up in time. Thanks!

I'm not sure tbh as I find the rules really confusing. So I'm not that helpful! If you find out that you can't do that, I do know that there are many uses for breast milk such as putting it in babies bath to soothe their skin, rub on sore nipples after breastfeeding and over nappy rash. Never done this myself but know of many mums that have x

I asked in my la leche league group and they say as long as it's under the 6 days in the fridge it's good to freeze. Sounds like you're doing amazing with expressing if you've got enough to freeze, well done!!

I would say good to freeze, just probably wouldn’t wait the full 6 month to use

@Vicki ah amazing thank you! I have a good milk supply which is lucky and i’m grateful for as i found/find breastfeeding really hard, so express too so my partner can help when little boy doesn’t latch or my nips are too sore 🫠 thank you x

@Liv (previously Peanut) the LLL leader has just replied and said there is a school of thought that says make it still add up to 6 - so if it was in the fridge for 2 days, only keep in freezer for up to 4 months.

@Vicki thanks so much, amazing info! I’ve heard of LLL but don’t know much about it - how do you get involved in a group and have a leader? Is this something anyone can do/join? It might be helpful for me! X

Awww you had baby! Congratulations! I was following your last post to see if there were any updates 💙 xx

@Liv (previously Peanut) a friend added me to a Facebook group when I had my first, I wasn't driving so never made it to an in person group but the online support was awesome. Hoping to go along now I'm driving! You can put your postcode in and it'll tell you where your local one is - https://laleche.org.uk/find-lll-support-group/

@Charlotte awh thank you! He’s 11 days old but we’ve been so busy i’ve not posted anything until now! X

@Liv (previously Peanut) bless you! I know how it is, I still have messages unread from two weeks ago! Hope all is going well for you.
