Question for boy moms!

Hey ladies! So my newborn is 2 weeks and EVERYTIME we change his diaper he has peed through his clothes, swaddle and onto the sheets. We have tried repositioning his Penis to face different directions but nothing is working! The amount of clothes/swaddle changes we go through in a day is crazy. Any tips on how to keep his pee in his diaper? We’re tightening them as much as possible. Help pleaseeeeee

I’m on the same boat. Here for advice

Always point the penis down, and make sure the ruffles around the legs are out. Leg ruffles seem to make a huge difference. I check the diaper before each feeding. I know for us, we will have to size up soon, but we have been on preemie size. (2 weeks as well). Otherwise, may be a brand thing. Different brands can have slightly different fits.

The guaze from healing circumcisions can make problems, too, but I think most newborns are healed by this point.

We had the same issue until we sized up from newborn to size 1. We tried 4 different brands and they all leaked but in size 1 no more leaking! For reference he was 8lbs 4oz at birth and is 2 wks old today.

@Jaquelyn it did but he is healed from that circumcision now

Always point it down, we’ve only had a couple issues because our son fights diaper changes

@Jaquelyn ok I’ll try pointing it down. He’s still 6 lbs so I feel like the size 1 diapers would be way too big. I’ll certainly try it though!

@Heather I’m glad you were able to see a difference once you sized up. My baby is 6lbs so I feel like size 1 would still be too big.

What diapers are you using? I found pampers swaddlers to be best for my boy. And I fold the front top inward to create a pocket so the pee doesn’t leak out the top

@Anna I am using Millie moon. I can try folding the top. We did that when he was healing from his circumcision and had to add the layer of guaze.

Honest brand ended up working well for my son who was a similar weight at that age. He’s a more long and lean body type and we had to do a ton of trial and error when he was between size 0 and 1 in diapers. The brands really do all fit a little differently. I know Huggies and up and up target brand run big so I wouldn’t suggest those at this point. We started out using pampers swaddlers so those probably wouldn’t work either.

My son is currently 3 weeks old and he was wearing I was using rascals and I switched to luvs and he has peed through the diaper since. I would try changing the brand of diaper.

Also had to go up a size in diaper

@Anna this!! We only use pampers swaddlers and no more peeing through! Fold down the front when they are little. We can't anymore. We also changed him every 2 hours.

Thank you everyone!

Also going through it! We sized up! No more leaks in the 1s! (He is 8.5lbs & We’re using Hello Bello)

3 week old boy here- I still have this problem every so often but when the circ healed it got a lot better. I do have to change him at any sign of a wet diaper!

Always point his genitals down when placing the diaper on. I had the same issue and it went away when I started doing this. Also, make sure the tabs of the diaper are on securely and tight enough to where your son isn’t getting hurt. And make sure the flaps of the diaper where his bottom is, are pulled out.

@Kellee thank you!!

No problem! Also remember that diaper sizes by weight are only a recommendation. I used NB diapers for about 2 weeks before changing to size 1 and it helped a lot. Congrats on your baby!!

@Kellee I’ll try the pointing the genitals down first and if it doesn’t help I’ll try sizing up. Thank you, and congratulations on your baby as well!! ❤️

Dealing with this same thing!

We have never had this problem... ours is 1 month now-- note that my mom is a nurse & has delivered hundreds of babies & recommended to us from the start to fold the front inward (& keep it smooth so he's comfortable) - so I'm assuming that's why. We've never moved his penis in any direction & also had no issues after the circ.

Had this issue with my first, turns out it was just the diaper in my case. Might be that for you too, in which case I'd advise you to avoid generic brand diapers (the absorbency sucks) and you might need to size up.
