Re lactating

So i know this is probably a bit of a weird one and I’m guessing no one else in the group has tried but i figured i’d post anyway on the off chance, basically my little boy is 4months old and has been exclusively formula fed from birth but he’s struggling so much with it he’s currently on his 6th formula so far because non of them are suiting him and I feel awful because my body made something especially for him so i’m thinking about attempting to re lactate theres still a bit of milk coming out obviously no where near enough to fill him but if anyone else has done something similar does it even seem worth it for how long it will take, like will i be able to replace all his bottles with breast milk before he comes off formula anyway? x

berkfeinauer came up on my TikTok feed and she has a whole playlist about relactating. Quickly looking her output wasn’t bad by 31 days.

Hi! So what you're talking about technically isn't "relactation" since you still have a bit of milk coming out! Relactation usually refers to when you have completely dried up and you start to try and produce again. Since your body is still producing, even just drops, it makes it so much easier to get your supply back than if you had completely dried up. I'd be willing to bet if you got on to a good pumping schedule, you'll start seeing an increase in your production in about a week! Also, I am in the exact same boat as you. My daughter has been exclusively formula fed for about 5 months now and I have recently decided that I'm not ready to be done with breastfeeding, so I am now working on trying to increase my supply (l also am still producing drops). For the time being, have you tried a goat milk formula such as bubs? My daughter's stomach couldn't handle cow milk formula and we've found bubs to be a huge help. Also, if you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to do formula instead of breastfeeding?

@Kristina he’s actually already on cmpa formula for a cows milk allergy so I don’t think goats milk would help him and unfortunately i cant afford it anyway and i chose formula feeding because i thought it would be easier for me to handle, i struggle a lot with patience when i have no sleep so my partners done all the nights since he was born luckily its only ever been 1-2 feeds a night and i know especially new borns tend to cluster feed and the thought of having a baby stuck to my boob all day stressed me out but seeing him struggle so much with formula has made me think it would be worth the stress if it means hes happy and comfortable

I definitely feel you there! There were many nights that I found myself very overwhelmed at night with cluster feeding because sleep is also very important to me. The nice thing about exclusively pumping is that once you get that supply built up, your partner can do the night feedings still and you only have to worry about waking up for about 30 minutes per night to pump! ☺️ I also definitely your little one would do great with breast milk since it's formulated to cater to the needs of each individual baby. Even with us using goat milk, my daughter spits up and has painful poos quite a bit and that was never a problem when she was exclusively breastfed, so that's my motivation to get my supply back. I say you go for it! I think you'd be surprised at just how fast your supply can increase!

@Kristina i think I will do thank you do you have any recommendations for cheapish pumps

As far as budget friendly pumps, I've heard good things about NCVI, Bellababy, Mommed S21, Puidselly, and Phanpy. All of those can be found on Amazon and are under $100! Also be sure to measure yourself and get flange inserts because most pumps are 24mm which is too big for most people and your supply won't increase if you don't have the proper flange size on your pump.

If you really want your supply to go up I would get a hospital grade or hospital grade portable like spectra or momcozy, baby Buddha, elvie stride. That suction will help full drain them
