Poxclin mousse, daily porridge baths, calpol (not ibuprofen, not recommended) and piriton at bedtime for itching. Cut their nails as short as possible to prevent infecting spots when they scratch. Lots of fluids and cuddles.

Poxclin mousse and oat baths
My son absolutely hated the cream and gel, the only thing that helped was oat baths
Being an adult that recently had shingles I would recommend Lukewarm oat baths (I bought the aveeno one from Amazon) and pat dry, followed by calamine lotion. If you start to notice the skin getting really dry then you can get aqueous calamine cream. It wasn’t as effective for me but it all depends on the skin type. Lots of fluids and make ice lollies as they are much more fun and the cold helps, paracetamol (calpol) and make sure their nails are short and filed (even as an adult you scratch when sleeping) Plenty of attention and spoiling while they have it because it isn’t nice. Coming from me I struggled and I’m 41 not 4.
