Question?

How long do you keep formula out once you’ve made it? My son likes to drink little and often and just seems a waste having to tip it away!!!

Once it's made, it has to be disposed of after 2 hours. If they've drunk from the bottle, it has to be disposed of after an hour. Could you make less so you're not chucking so much away?

Once it's made you've got 2 hours but once they start drinking it's 1 hour from that point x

I was always told 2 hours from making the bottle, however, if you ask the question "how do you go out and about with bottles, can I pre make them" people will say "yes I've premade bottles for my lo and taken them out for multiple hours & it's fine" so it's a weird one. I did allow my 8 month old to have a bottle that's been out a bit longer than 2 hours, but I reheat it.

Thanks guys, I’ve been keeping it for 2 hours as I thought this was right.. does it make a difference if it’s formula and BM mixed or not? Just a shame to have to waste it

We've done 2 hours since it was made... hadn't heard the rule from the first two comments whoops! Always discarded after 2 hours from making though and LO is 6 months and fine 🙂

@Felicity I have been doing the same and had no issues

Just to add, you can pre make formula and keep it in the fridge for 24 hrs. Once its taken out of the fridge the 2 hr and 1 hr rules apply. Obviously you can reheat it xx

@Reena my supply has lessened which is why I’ve had to supplement with formula, but my son is 9.5 months old and won’t take it on it’s own so mixing what I can manage to pump until he’s used to it

@Reena I have suspected gallstones and was really ill for 2 days(I couldn’t eat) which unfortunately caused my supply to decrease, I’ve managed to increase it but not enough.. so might also naturally just be.

I was also only pumping 1/2 oz at a time which was giving me 1/2 bottles instead of the 6(including night feeds) he currently has
