Skin to skin

Anyone else feel like they haven’t done enough skin to skin with their babies? I did a bunch in the hospital, but I didn’t breastfeed (pumped, now just formula) and it’s freezing winter where I live and I am always cold and wearing multiple layers. I know scent is super important for babies to know their moms. The other night I had to rush in and switch with my husband on night duty cause he felt overwhelmed and I was topless (how I sleep) and and she calmed down so quickly being in my skin. But I was freezing haha. Anyways, anyone else not really doing skin to skin (unintentionally)? Does she still know I’m mama? 😭

I worry about this so much - idk why it’s so hard to remember to do it. I guess just wanting to keep baby warm during the day. We have plenty of contact naps - but have had hardly any skin to skin since leaving the hospital :(

We did it a lot with our first. But not so much with our second. I think because we're constantly up and doing stuff. I try to do it whenever I can. It's sad baby #2 isn't getting it as much but I'm happy for the moments we do get to do it

You’re not alone it’s been cold where I live too baby girl was born December 9th and I live in upstate ny so I’ve also been just trying to keep her warm but I do regret not doing more skin to skin as it is so special and intimate moments we won’t always be able to get. However I don’t think we’re bad moms for letting it slip through the cracks a little bit and focusing on keeping the babies warm with the cold. You could grab a robe or something and then cover both of you guys up in it

I mentioned my concerns to a midwife and they told me not to worry since nursing or just touching hands also accounts as skin on skin. I guess we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves.

@Nora that’s interesting! So just touching baby’s hands is kind of like skin to skin?

That’s at least what the midwife told me. I think by having winter babies we all quite struggle the same and in the end it’s not doing the baby any harm. They’ll no exactly who their mom is from a few feet away already. 🥰

@Nora love that!
