Obstetrician recommendations

I’m planning an elective c-section and trying to choose a private obstetrician. Do you have any tips what to ask about the way a doctor does c-section? Can someone recommend an obstetrician you were happy with? (in terms of the surgery)

Where are you based? Id highly recommend Jess McMicking at the Westminster Women’s Clinic. She operates out of St Thomas’ and the private ward Westminster Maternity Suite. Amazing obstetrician!

@Sarah Thanks. How quickly have you recovered after the surgeries? Were both surgeries done by her?

Yes. I’m 10 weeks almost now and I’m back to doing exercises and light jogging. I was off meds both times within a week, never had worse pain than a normal period. Climbing stairs, out shopping within a day or two of discharge, yoga by week 6 and flying home to Australia at week 8. Amazing care, such a small neat low scar, no shelf, no recovery issues. I was in the park walking around, babywearing my son and pushing my toddlers pram on day 9 after this surgery. She’s so lovely, available 24/7 throughout pregnancy and postpartum, amazing clinic, lovely facilities and team at St Thomas’ private ward. Jess has delivered both of my children, my first whilst heavily pregnant with her own. I’m happy to DM with photos of my scars and recovery xx

My first baby I took the underground home, went to the pub for lunch on day 4 and Costco on day 5. I was in London every other day doing stuff, out for dinners, going to vote, seeing friends for coffee. Obviously walking slow and in no rush but never in pain. I got back into my running and 5m pp I did half marathon again, not my best time but back to running which was great. Second baby born last month and I’ve been baby wearing him since that second week. Taking my daughter to ballet, walking around the park, visiting family and taking national rail. I had minimal scarring internally too, so much so that the ultrasound tech at the fetal medicine centre didn’t know I’d had a caesarean. My scar is very very low and vanished within a year on its own. My second scar is the same but an inch longer as the baby was in a different position. No scarring issues, no back pain, no bladder issues. I was on a bouncy castle this weekend for a birthday party 😂

Wow, that sounds impressive indeed. 😊 I’m glad your recovery was so straightforward! I’ll message you directly as I have a couple of follow up questions.

Hiya! Did you deliver with a private obstetrician before? Do you mind me asking why you have decided to go private? I’m looking at options to help a potential third c section go as smoothly as possible!xx

@Lydia If you’re asking me, it’s my first. I have friends who unfortunately had a traumatic experience on the NHS, I’m not young and have health issues which make my pregnancy high risk. I’m lucky that my partner can afford the cost.

I see! That makes sense I’m in a similar boat actually. Do you kind me asking how old you are?xx

I’ll be atleast 36 next delivery which I guess makes me a little older too x
