Cervical length

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or can offer any advice... I had an 11mm cervical biopsy in 2019. I then feel pregnant with my daughter in 2021 when the threshold for receiving additional scans to monitor cervix length was 10mm or more. Unfortunately I wasn't listened to by my midwife so didn't receive any of the additional checks I was entitled to and had to receive a formal apology from the hospital. Fast forward to now and I'm 19 weeks pregnant. The threshold has increased to 15mm so I no longer qualify for additional scans, however I have mentioned over and over that with my daughter my waters were leaking from around 34 weeks. I was really naive at the time and didn't get it checked out, thank god nothing happened and my daughter arrived safely at 37 weeks when my waters fully went and I had to be induced as labour didn't start naturally. I'm convinced my waters were leaking because of my weakened cervix. I brought this up again at my 16 week midwife appointment and she said she'd make a referral and see if the hospital would be willing to see me even though I don't meet the threshold, but I've heard nothing since. I ring the hospital and they say I need to speak to my midwife - I ring my midwife and they don't pick up and don't return my calls. I feel like I'm not being listened to again and it's so frustrating and disheartening. I think I'm going to be left with no choice but to pay privately for cervical length scans, but at £95 a time it's going to leave a big dent in my maternity savings.

I’m so sorry you experienced this. I have no personal experience of this however could you contact PALS regarding both pregnancies to see if they can help any further? X

I’m so sorry this is happening. Is there anyway you can send an email to the obstetric department so it’s all followed up in writing and insist on being seen?

@Leolie thank you. That's a good idea, I think I'll spend some time getting it all in writing with the aim of doing just that xx

@Laura thank you. I've paid privately for a check today and things look ok at the minute, but not enough for me to not keep worrying. A consultant has agreed to give me a telephone appointment on Wednesday so it's a start xx

I have a 26mm cervix and Colchester hospital has been giving me scans every 3 weeks as apparently under 25mm is a risky of early labour, it is mad how different UK hospitals can be so different x

@jodie I ended up paying privately for a scan and mine is currently 28mm. Don't know what to make of that as, while it's not 25mm, it still seems pretty close to me. You're so right, it seems to be a postcode lottery which is so frustrating. I'm glad your trust is giving you the checks you need xx

@Laura that’s great someone is giving you a phone call, hopefully that can give you some reassurance too. I do feel like you can understand different countries rules and regulations, but not different hospitals all part of the NHS. X
