When making formula how many people use cool boiled water? My son is almost 10 months so now drinks tap water during the day(I stopped using cool boiled) but I have just moved him onto formula because of supply issues, and have been using cool boiled water to make. I’ve just realised that surely it doesn’t matter if he already drinks water from the tap?

I believe formula says on the back of the tin to be made with boiled water that’s cooled for 30 mins (so isn’t fully cooled down) to help kill bacteria which is in the formula and to ensure it all mixes properly. It’s not about killing the bacteria in the water like for under 6 month olds but the bacteria in the formula as the tin isn’t sterile especially once opened

The boiled water is to kill the bacteria in the formula rather than anything to do with the water itself. You should always use water over 70 degrees to kill any bacteria (whether that be via hot shot or all boiled then cooled for drinking).

I understand the hotshot is to kill the bacteria, I mean the cold water you add after that..

I do the hot shot from the kettle and rest from the tap 😊

Ohh sorry get you! Misunderstood the question. I’d say that’s absolutely fine if your little one already drinks tap water 🙂 I use hot shot and cooled boiled water but my LG is just under 5 months
