We started with a book like the pirate Pete potty book as our toddler was the same. Now he loves the potty 😊
My son has only just started showing a real interest in the toilet he will sit on with fully clothes or pants down I'm going with his lead and lots of praise so when he's sat on it I ask what can we such toothpaste toilet roll I know I sound crazy he gets a sticker after
I have no idea what I'm doing first time parent just winging it
My daughter has smashed using the potty or toilet for wees she’s doing amazing. But poos she won’t do, she just does them in her pants and then panics and shouts I need a wee but she’s already pooed in her pants!!😩😩😩 no idea what to do as she knows to use the potty when we talk about it x
I have 4 kids, what I learned is Don’t bother till they are 3! 😀will save you time and nerves
I've stopped trying for now as I don't want to trumatise him and scare him more than he already is, then he will never try. I will just have to wait and go with his lead on this one then 😊
Get a mini toilet off Amazon and go together!
We started with a potty themed book by each of the pottys , we have a duggee one downstairs and a thomas one upstairs. Every time we use the toilet we encouraged our son to come with and sit on the potty whilst we read. We cheered every time he sat on it, clothes or not. We made it fun. We had a sticker chart (magnetic so we could keep reusing it) we would narrate things aloud and me and my husband would talk to each other announcing what were doing like we use the toilet when we first wake up, or before we get into the bath etc so that it started to become routine
@Maria ours was ready at 2.5. Every child is different - some are ready earlier , some later.
@Greta well of course you can tell when they are ready but Charlotte is saying her toddler is scared of it so clearly not ready.
Don’t force it just keep the potty in sight let him watch you use the toilet tell him when you going for wee wee/poo poo can ask him to copy you by sitting on the potty make it fun. Tell him you wear big girl pants daddy wears big boy pants. Lots of potty themed books my son loved poo poo bum bum wee wee. We had the potty out and mentioned it daily from about 18months. We bought his fav character “big boy pants” at 2 1/2 years one day when shopping with him and a few weeks later he decided one afternoon he said he wanted to wear them and use the potty and we’ve not looked back. I do believe there’s a moment where it just clicks for them.
I am having this same issue he goes into a melt down if I even mention pants
I’d wait till he’s ready otherwise could make the experience worse
