@Asha😂😂. I feel it and thats a fear i have lol going through the hassle of it all and then having to do it again haha But is it something thats mandatory to do?
As long as travel is booked in the same name as your passport, it doesn’t matter whether it’s your maiden or married name. I’d wait, and then change passport after you get back, as chances are won’t be processed in time for April!
For Mexico I think you just have to book your tickets with your passport name as long as the name matches they won’t care
It’s not mandatory. Just do it when you’re done traveling for a while
I think it depends on your state and if you changed your name on the marriage certificate (Which I did lmao) but I was just overwhelmed with life so I didn’t even bother going to do it it was just the last thing on my mind as I was pregnant again and working full time and barely making ends meet … which all just felt like a sign in retrospect AND my name would’ve been hyphenated anyway with my last name at the end so I went by my maiden name anyway 🤣
I personally did it almost immediately . lol. I don’t have a passport so I’m not sure about that.. But, I would go on your trip, come back and do the name changing! My husband and I anniversary was this past weekend (March 1). It was our 9 years together and 3 years married. I got my new social security card in the mail in the same month after I got married.
I did it immediately, but you can wait until after your trip. You can wait however long you want.
I changed all mine straight away but didn’t have any trips booked Your passport has to match your booking so if you’ve already booked Mexico in your maiden name then just wait until you get back to update everything Technically you don’t have to update anything, it’s your choice to take another surname There is a cost to update some things too. Think passport was £80, so if you don’t plan to travel much just wait until it’s due to expire and save some pennies
Ok so if i did the name change or hyphenated on the marriage certificate its still NOT mandatory to change my name on my documents? Or i have to go by what the certificate says? Sorry its all confusing to me haha i didnt think getting married hd so many other steps 🫠
A marriage certificate simply records the names of the couple that are getting married. It does not show what last name you will be using following your marriage. While some women choose to adopt their husband's last name there is no legal requirement to do so
I don't know if you are in the UK or not, but you can actually get a passport that has a start date as your booked wedding date if you have evidence of the wedding being booked in and are planning to change your name
@Katie no im in California.
I changed mine within the week of getting married but I didn't have travel plans outside of the country within a short time frame. I'd think it's better to wait since it takes a while for things to process and you don't want to be in another country if there's a hiccup in the process. But if I was you, I'd also call passport services and ask them directly to be on the safe side.
lol I never did and I’m so grateful because I didn’t have to change anything back 🤣 I didn’t like his last name to begin with
