Sterilising bottles.

So I’ve just had a power cut I’ve got no bottles sterilised literally was about to do them when the power went off and it’s been off for about 30 mins now. Little one goes to bed at seven and that’s when I wash and put them into sterilised I was also about to make myself some pasta so I’d just filled the kettle with freshly boiled water so I’ve managed to fill a flask up with hot water in and it’s usually pretty good and will still be at temp in the morning if it’s not back on and I’m not able to sterilise the bottles will it be okay? She’s also got CMPA so she’s on prescription milk so I can’t just buy pre-made formula. My mate had a power cut and it lasted four days so I’m just worried. Sorry for the essay.

Can you get a cold water steriliser?

You can boil them for 5 mins to sterilise if you have gas?

Otherwise get yourself some Milton tablets or liquid tomorrow and cold water sterilise

My baby is sound asleep now till morning. I don’t drive either.

I actually have sterilising tablets somewhere

How do you cold water sterilise🤦🏽‍♀️

For a couple of bottles it won’t be that much of an issue :) just make sure they are cleaned properly, check all the little crevices xxx

I’ve also got the wipes and no haven’t got gas otherwise I wouldn’t be so panicked

If you have tablets just fill a washing up bowl or sink with 5l of cold water and chuck them in. With you not having gas I’m assuming you don’t have hot water either to wash so I personally would still sterilise them just in case. The risks are low but if you have some tablets then I would use them. You could get them delivered from amazon tomorrow if needs be too. Hopefully they get your power sorted soon though ❤️

@Storme they were soaked in boiling water with washing up liquid before I washed them literally boiled water because I’m weird and like to soak them in boiled water first🤦🏽‍♀️ then I washed them normally

@Lauryn I do have gas as in radiators and the water was still really hot when I washed up bits from her dinner a moment ago. I’m on priority what With having a baby but how many other are too these are high rise flats there’s two with 40 something flats in both and the whole street and shop is out too so I don’t know how long it will be. How many do I put in?

You can put as much as you can with 5L of water. It just needs to be fully submerged though.

Thank you everything. I feel so dumb. I’ve just always used steam sterilisers

Oh please don’t. There are so many out there. I have definitely purchased more than one. I personally find cold water sterilising the quickest and easiest. If you get a proper Milton tank you can fit so many bottles in one hit and can take anywhere.

Thank you

Ahhh that’s a relief for you then! At least you aren’t going to get cold and can get washed up etc. As Charlotte said, just 1 tablet in 5l of water, put your bits in and ensure they are fully submerged and then after 15 mins you can get them out again. You can keep using that same water for 24 hours too as much as you need to ☺️

Thank you everyone I really appreciate it

When I had a power cut I boiled up some water on the hob and boiled the bottles for 5mins 🙂

It seems to be back on this morning. @Alex the only issue is I don’t have a gas hob I’ve got an electric oven and hob

Great news!
