IMO It depends on your support system. If you have a reliable support system for after the baby arrives then I would choose a birth doula because that process is intense and even with a birth plan and birthing classes it can be hard to know what's going on. Postpartum is a tricky time and there is such a huge demand on the mom physically and mentally. The first four-six weeks will be a magical rollercoaster as your body heals and your hormones level out. It's especially hard if you end up getting PPD or PPA. They talk a lot about it before they discharge you, but it may be hard to identify. Once you get to know your baby, your routine, and your identity as a mom it gets easier.
POSTPARTUM
100% post partum, all you defenses drop after you have your baby. Newborn is needing feedings every few hours so self care will be non existent for the first few weeks. You are exhausted from birth, if partner can’t help so you are able to get some sleep it will be so tough on your body and mind.
