Not planned but I had an “non emergency” emergency section at Newham in September. I wasn’t dilating fast enough as my waters had broke, and 72hr later we decided it was time to go have a section before baby gets distressed. Even though a section was something I really wanted to avoid, I can’t fault the team, the anesthetist explained absolutely everything and was amazing with me. My partner was very on edge during it but he was there and saw majority of the procedure and he would be the first to complain but he also said the surgical team were also amazing and couldn’t fault them! I’ve had 2 sections at Newham one energancy (8 years ago) one planned (almost 1 year ago) I would say planned is very relaxed and went smoothly and the staff were really nice. One thing I will say is make sure you take your own painkillers as the midwives in the postnatal ward are unorganised when it comes to giving medication. I had my own paracetamol and ibuprofen. I would also suggest as soon as you feel comfortable ask them to remove the catheter so you can move around. I didn’t do this for my first section and recovery was more painful the second time round. Yes, had an elective there in October and an emergency one almost 15 years ago. I had a great experience. Was informed all the way, and staff very friendly
Hello. So I’ve had two elective c-sections at Newham. Just making the distinction between that and a planned one as my decision to have them down entirely to maternal choice, there were not underlying medical reasons just in case useful. They were both amazing experiences. I was with the group midwife practice for both so had the same midwife whose care was amazing. The staff were great, the anaesthesiologist the second time so wonderful I wrote to the head of the hospital saying what a positive experience it had been. Calm, professional, organised the care was great from start to finish. I was super nervous about it when I had my first in 2021 as they had just come out of special measures, I’d heard such bad things, so prepared for the worse. Couldn’t fault it.
