Teething toys

Should we be sterilising all teething toys before use and between uses? I’m confused if it’s necessary. I only breastfeed so haven’t sterilised much and is there a point when baby just puts everything in their mouth and therefore, you can’t help what is and isn’t sterile? I just need some advice as a confused first time mum 😂

Second time mum here! I personally don’t! I have a toddler who touches all the toys and tries to give her the teethers so if I tried to sterilise them all the time I would never stop 🤣! That’s my personal opinion anyway, I’m sure there are people that do!

I think we should. I’m using Vital baby steriliser and it takes only 7 mins to sterilise

@Georgia with you on this one, it’s sooo difficult even dummies are a nightmare as he can put them in babies mouth now. Tbf my oldest was at nursery eating mud at like 9 months old so you know 🤣

@Olivia How often would you do it? Like every day or every time they use it? I’ve not sterilised anything with BF alone so it’s all new to me and someone said it’s only sterile 24 hours so do I do them everyday? X

@Danielle I think second time around you’re just way more relaxed 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

@Georgia massively!! I think ours must be very similar ages too?? X

@Danielle mine son is 2.5 and little one just turned 4 months!

@Georgia my oldest be 2.5 next month and little one is 4 months Friday so yeah very similar! First one is fully in terrible twos as well x

@Danielle it’s hard work! 😂I feel like the terrible 2’s started at 18 months 🤣

@Sarah things don't stay sterile, it's only sterile for 24 hours IF it stays in the steriliser box/bag/container without being opened. It's a good idea to clean things, and especially if they've been on the floor, but we don't sterilise teethers at all. They get washed in hot soapy water at the end of the day. We have Milton wipes for our and about though, just in case one ends up on the floor and we really need to use it! We also use dummy clips to attach toys to his clothes so it minimises them ending up on the floor

@Charley Yes I heard the 24 hours and pondered warm soapy water before doubting myself! Thank you. I also carry Milton wipes which I use for trolleys and stuff but that’s a good point regarding toys too! I’ll try dummy clips I never thought of that. Thank you x

I sterilised before first use and then do it every now and again. Do the same with dummies. I got so paranoid in the start. You end up worrying that it's touched her clothes, or touched the edge of her chair, or the table. In the end you'd spend your entire life sterilising everything. Numerous times a day. Now I just make sure I do them all every few days. Just make sure they get washed. And yeah I use dummy clips to minimise the landing on the floor and I sterilise if they end up on the floor.

No. I don't x
