Standard formula is 5oz per kg of babies weight at 15weeks. Maybe message infant feeding team if it's an option?
My LO was 7kg (15-15lb) on her last weigh in. So she needs minimum 35oz daily
She's also just turned 16weeks
@Linsay not really sure what they can do if he just won’t take anymore in a bottle 😂 I can’t force him as he had a bottle aversion when he was ill before the prescription milk, and we already offer 4oz every 2 hours so there isn’t really much else we can do! It’s weird isn’t it, because on the back of some formula tins it says 30oz in a day maximum, but other guidelines follow the 150ml - 200ml per KG! Very mixed messages!
I would just discuss with HV. But like you said, you can't force them. Babies take as much as they need so maybe they are satisfied with what they're asking. You can get advice til the cows come but at the end of the day, your baby knows what they want & you know your baby better than anyone else x
@Linsay it’s a minefield isn’t it!! I either force him to take a milk that is absolutely disgusting and then he pushes all bottles away, or I go with what he will take and I’m basically under feeding - remind me why we had babies again…!
Nuts! I Hope you get your answer!! Has he been losing g weight :(
@Linsay no he hasn’t, he was putting on weight slower before the prescription milk was given to us, but he was quite poorly with diarrhoea and blood in his nappies so we’ve had a rough ride!
Oh god. I feel for you. Poor baby too 🧡
My first was on prescription milk, she wouldn’t touch the SMA one we were prescribed but she accepted the aptimal pepti one fine. So maybe enquire about a different brand instead? My second only eats around 30oz a day which I thought was normal. I just go off her hunger cues like I did with my first.
@Saff he’s been really poorly so we are quite limited on what he can have now as he has to have a Syneo version that include the pre and pro biotics, and there’s only 2 available!
@Saff yep aware of that and are obviously under doctors and a dietician, was just looking to see if anyone else had a similar experience to chat with 👍🏽
Which milk is he on at the moment?
This is an app for mums to discuss their experiences. I was looking for other mums who have been in the same situation. Im very aware that nobody is a medical professional, and I am not a neglectful mum who wouldn’t speak to a GP or HV first of all, which is how I felt your message came across. It may not have been intended that way, but that’s how it was received. I am just a mum who is VERY desperate for any kind of advice or tips that other people might have to help navigate an extremely difficult period of time, so any additional help from other supportive people is welcome right now.

@Jennie he is on Neocate Syneo, as he was in hospital for a gut infection because of the incorrect treatment and lack of help from my GP, so he now needs the pre/pro biotics in the Syneo version to repair that damage. We are under NHS dietitian’s and GPs etc, we are now paying for private paediatric consultant appointments as the support we have in my area is terrible. I’m just at a complete loss of what to do now, feel like completely giving up
We tried 4 milks before finding one that works. The neocate tastes like s**t!! We are now on Aptamil Pepti Syneo which has been fantastic. It tastes similar to standard formula. I have tasted all of the ones he has been on 😂 he is now a different child x
@Jennie I don’t think he can have this because it’s not an amino based milk 😩. They don’t want him on any of the extensively hydrolysed formulas whilst being treated for the gut infection, so that’s why we have no other options! It’s just a massive circle with no positive ending at the moment!
Which is the other one that is available?
I have heard of people adding a drop of vanilla essence into the prescription milk to make the tase more tolerable.
@Jennie as far as I’ve been told, for a Syneo based amino milk it is just Neocate, so we’ve been told to just keep trying and hope it gets better
Hi, I’m not sure if it’s an option for you but I’ve seen some drs suggest a bit of alcohol free vanilla extract or nesquick in the bottles to help with the taste of the formula, I know they can be pretty grim. Might be worth an ask if it’s possible for you guys? Hope you find a solution soon. Seems super stressful x
Does he suffer from reflux at all? We found that stopped him from drinking as much. It can be made worse by the Prescription milk
@Ayesha thank you, but we do this already after the dietitian suggested it😔
@Jennie we are using a thickener currently to help with that too! Thank you so much for all of your messages, as you can tell I am a very desperate mum right now who feels like a complete failure, but I really do appreciate all of your suggestions 🤍
We tried the thickener but ended up on gaviscon which seemed to work much better x
@Jennie thank you, I will definitely speak to the dietician about this next week x
This seems like a really good amount my son is on neocate lcp for allergies. He only has between 18-23oz and day and that's a bottle every 3-4 hours ( sometimes 5-6 on a night ) and he will only have around 3-4oz a time. He was weighed weekly but hospital have now discharged him and I just need to get him weighed weekly He was 8lb 1 born and is now 12lb 7 at 16 weeks old dropped from the 50th to the 9th percentile but is now following the 9th which everyone seems to be happy with. I have heard that if you baby doesn't like the milk to add a drop of vanilla essence but honestly with the amount he is having he seems to be doing fine. What is he like when he is drinking the bottle to make you think he doesn't like the milk ? Just make sure you get him weighed regularly maybe every 2-3 weeks until you know he's putting on enough weight as this means he's getting enough milk
Also just a side note not always but babies who are having 6/7oz bottles generally are going a lot longer between feed more lile 4-5 hours and longer on a night so they may be having 6/7 oz but will only be having a total of around 5 bottles a day
Feel free to message me for a chat. You are doing great, remember that. X

Girls you’ve made me cry with how kind you’ve been. It’s been a bad day today!! Allergies are no joke, when people moan about their baby teething, I’m always thinking that I would pay money if that was my only issue right now!!
@kylie you know what Neocate is like, the smell used to make me gag, let alone drinking it!! It’s a battle to get him to drink it, we get alot of pushing the bottle out with his tongue, turning his head, fussing when the bottle comes near him. I’m just really conscious that this could turn into bottle aversion, which is another whole drama in itself! I hope your baby is doing better now, I really empathise with you and what it’s like feeling like you’ve tried everything and it’s still not working xx
Another thought. My little boy preferred the neocate cooled in the fridge. I suppose if I was forced to drink piss I’d rather drink cold piss than room temperature Luke warm piss ( how I liked to think of it) 😂not sure if you can do that with the syneo
@Jennie hahahahahhahaha this has made me laugh so much 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My boy is on prescription milk and has only just started drinking a 5oz bottle at 20 weeks and he is absolutely fine x
