Yes. We did the consultation and procedure on the same day, back to back. We got a clear explanation of the after care exercises needed at home. We switched to the pigeon nipple (formula fed), and my son was able to move his tongue to the roof of his mouth, no longer making sucking noises while drinking, no more blistering on the lips as he tried to latch on a nipple size that was too big, and he is feeding well. It was difficult for me to make the decision and I did a lot of research. The first place wouldn’t let parents in to see the procedure which is crazy. The place we went with we were able to be there to offer words of encouragement as we saw the laser procedure. He cried during the procedure but after having a bottle he immediately settled and his recovery was almost nonexistent. No crying or fussiness like I expected. He is now 3 months and cooing away and able to use his tongue to make all kinds of noises. Hope it goes well for your family 💕
@Beth thank you for sharing! How was it having to do the exercises after? I’m worried about that part 😢
It turned out to be okay. The exercises were along the lines of stick out your tongue so the baby can mimic, use your gloved finger to help the baby move their tongue around from side to side, underneath the tongue for them to reach the top of their mouths, etc. The first place we went made it sound like the baby would be crying the entire time we would do the exercises. The place we ended up having the procedure done showed us the exercises (and we got to record a video on which exercises to do) before having the procedure done. My son loved learning to stick out his tongue! I hope you find a place that you can ask them a million questions and they lay everything out on what will be happening and the aftercare. This made me feel relieved and the days after the procedure flew by and it was so good to see my son happy that he can move his tongue around without discomfort.
@Beth thank you this is super helpful ❤️
Yes I just got by babies tongue tie release done this past Monday. It went rlly good the procedure was quick she was uncomfortable the first two days and Tylenol helped also arnica montana helped. Since then she’s been fine other than doing the tongue excersies. She doesn’t like how I have to put my hands all in her mouth and move around her tongue.
I did it for my preemie and was honestly the best decision ever!
We did for our first. It was helpful but not everything everybody told us our was going to do. We still had latching issues reflux, low weight gain etc. But he stopped falling asleep after only having an ounce and bottle feedings went better after. It was a lot of work to go through for that. But ours had a tongue tie in the back, not in the front. So the benefit you will see might be better depending on severity. Hope that helps!
