I’ve had two and both were amazing. Very calm and happy, no trauma and no regrets. My baby born in December was in my chest 6 minutes after they started! You are in safe hands and everyone in the theatre does this every hour of the day. Recovery wise, never had worse pain than a bad period. With both surgeries I was up and walking that night, showering, carrying and feeding baby. On day 5 with my daughter I was in Costco shopping 😂 Happy to answer any questions, share scar photos etc if it helps xx
Of everyone I've spoken to, no one has regretted an elective c-section! I think an emergency section is a bit different, but where it's calm and planned, it sounds like it can be a really positive experience.
My elective was great. I recovered within 2 weeks and was up and doing stuff by that time. I also recovered alone but this was what made recovery very very hard and difficult. I’ve had both natural and c section births and if I could choose I would choose natural everytime. I’m 8 months pp and still get pain where my scar is sometimes but my scar has healed beautifully. We had an elective due to complications x
My elective last April was the absolute DREAM.
I had a c section and it was the worst I was drugged up from the c section I couldn’t wake up after the procedure and didn’t see my son until I got to my recovery room and I wanted natural birth but I couldn’t because there was no water in my sac and the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck so they had to do emergency c section on me
My recovery was amazing no where near what I was expecting and definitely a lot easier than some of my friends who had had vaginal births! I am going for an elective this time around rather than attempt a VBAC and feeling really calm about it!
Thank you all for the comments. They really are helpful xx
@Azshidai from what I can gather the emergency ones are not nice at all but the pre planned ones are better x
I didn’t have a pre planned one
I had an emergency C-Section last time, after 20 hours of intense labour, and honestly found the recovery to be absolutely fine and smooth. I was a bit out of it, and can't remember a huge amount of the procedure. I am however very wary of recovering with a toddler in tow if I have to have another one this time. I would say though, that I'm no longer scared of a C-section like I was last time, and if I didn't have a toddler, I wouldn't hesitate to have an elective C-section if it seemed needed.
I have heard acupuncture can help turn a baby. I went in not because of that but to try and get labor started. The acupuncture lady told me a story about how she’s done it and literally seen the babies flip to head down!
@Gemma thanks so much for commenting! It’s so helpful to hear others’ stories! I have 2 children already, a 4 year old and a veryyyy lively 2 year old so I am slightly concerned about this too! But I do have a very good husband and sisters & mum who are all helpful so hoping I will be ok 🙏
I have one in April! I chose this over natural. Great to see such good comments.
My son was born 9 weeks early by “emergency” c section but even in those circumstances it was such a chill and positive experience. I was walking every day which helped with recovery, slept propped up for a week or so and made sure my pain relief was overlapping but never really felt anything but sore. @Georgia it sounds like you have some great support to get you through the first few weeks.

So i was induced for 2 days with no progresssion so we chose a c section. I was really scared at the time but now im more scared of natural birth lol my c section took 10 min (at most) and i was off pain meds within 2 days. I definitely promote c sections
We had to have my baby early. It was classed as an emergency c section. I had an overall good experience. The recovery obviously isn’t the best but keep ontop of pain relief and definitely take the laxatives. Hope all goes well for you ❤️
I had an emergency c section and it was horrendous but I know loads of people who chose an elective they all had positive experiences and healed quickly. I could barely walk the first week where as alot of them were up and about the next day and could get by on paracetamol only xx
Same here, in mainly worried about the recovery while having a toddler at home 😭
