How to get the child to poop on the potty???

We have finally mastered peeing on the potty. He does it independently without reminders now. But for some reason, pooping on the potty just won't happen. This is the third day in a row that I've had to clean poop out of his pants. Any tips or advice?

Going through the same thing with my daughter! So following for tips

I had the same problem with my daughter. For her it was a position issue because she was chronically constipated. I would suggest adding a mild softener to your child’s juice, like miralax, and upping the water during the day to make it more comfortable. Once my daughter cleared the backup, the Elmo potty became a victim. She’s consistent and even goes to the bathroom on the school potty.

I have heard that having them help clean up the mess helps nudge them in that direction. But I have not done this and don't know how I feel about it tbh. And if it's a constipation or discomfort issue obviously that's a different story

@Jamie definitely not constipated. He's always been pretty regular. Every day or every other day, never beyond that. I'll take that into consideration, but I'm not sure how I feel about that either. Not at the age of 3 anyway. Thank you for the suggestion though!

I am literally going through the same thing lol

@Jenna even if he’s going all the time if the texture isn’t something that he can move on the potty you might try to soften it a little bit. If not miralax you can always go with prune or pear juice. My daughter had to get into a birthing squat to go before we changed her diet to soften the stool.

A tip I was given was to throw it in the toilet and let them see and flush it. Assuming it’s solid enough.

Oh also, I’ve found helpful a little tip to don’t ask if they have to go tell them to go. My child also likes the song that says if you have to go potty stop and go right away. It’s been helpful from Daniel Tiger.

@Nicole I do that in every day life. For the most part he goes independently without reminders, but if I feel like he needs one I'll simply state "go potty please". But that is solid advice that I use daily, don't ask the child if they want to do something unless you're okay with them saying no. I'll look up that song, thank you! ❤️

Ours did it the first time when she was in the bathtub. When she realized she didn't have a diaper on, she was like "I have to go poo poo" so she didn't have much of a choice (well I guess the alternative would be horrendous). We gave her a piece of candy after doing it and we still give her a piece of candy each time she goes. There are less and less times that she goes in her diaper, so we're more confident moving to panties now!
