Are Moses Baskets an essential? šŸ§ŗ

Iā€™m 24 weeks pregnant with my first and up until this point I had not considered purchasing a Moses basket for baby naps downstairs during the day. I have thought the baby would be okay to nap in his next to me crib in our bedroom and I would use the baby monitor to keep an eye on him. However Iā€™m now wondering if this is incredibly naive. Where did your baby have its daytime naps?

Im wondering the same - swithering between a Moses basket for downstairs or the najell carry basket thing!

Iā€™m going to have a Moses basket for downstairs and a next to me for upstairs but Iā€™ve seen some people talking about using the carry cot from the pushchair to sleep in downstairs

up to 3 year **as a high chair

Iā€™m the same number of weeks pregnant I am going with a next to me crib upstairs and a Moses basket downstairs, mainly as they should be in sight and I donā€™t want to be shut away upstairs all the time. Also can carry the Moses basket easily outside. I got one for Ā£20 on market place and plan on getting a new mattress for it.

We got a Moses from FB because we have a dog and needed a nap location higher than she can reach; I also wouldnā€™t have been confident with him napping away from me in those early weeks. As long as your pram bassinet is okay for overnight sleep you could use it!

My first absolutely hated his moses basket and never slept in it. We ended up using the carry cot part of his pram instead for downstairs. We haven't got a moses basket this time and I'm not sure whether to bother with one

Safe sleep guidelines are babies should always sleep in the same room as you until they are 6 months old to lower the risk of SIDS, and this is for day and night sleep. That being said with my first started using the monitor and next to me crib for naps from around 3 months old. I would sit outside the door though as he wouldnā€™t only nap for 20-30mins so couldnā€™t really do anything else in that time! Until then he slept either on me, in the pram bassinet on the floor / dining table or in his bouncer chair thing.

My first wouldnā€™t sleep in the next to me crib straight away so we ended up with the Moses basket inside it šŸ˜… we then found that the prams carry cot fit in to the Moses basket base so just used that downstairs as it is one thatā€™s approved for overnight sleep, as they said ubove babies listen while they sleep and your breathing helps them regulate theirs so shouldnā€™t be left to nap in another room really x

Next to me crib upstairs and down stairs x

I'm going to use my overnight sleep approved pram carrycot downstairs

I never got one with my first but it was the first thing I bought this time! His next to me cot was far too big for him and he hated it. I ended up carrying his pram (which is a safe sleep space) upstairs every night and will not be doing it again!!

Iā€™ve just bought the snuz pod, the ā€œbedā€ is removable, so we can have it beside the bed or downstairs for naps

@Katherine we had this for our first and found it extremely heavy to carry and too big for him! Weā€™ve gone with a Moses basket this time

We have a next to me for upstairs and I got a sleepyhead and a Moses basket aswell (both off of marketplace) but weā€™re getting a new mattress for the Moses basket. Weā€™re over 3 floors so just want to make stuff as convenient as I can

@Amber @Katherine second this. Itā€™s far too big and heavy to carry up and down the stairs every day.

We used a Moses basket with a stand for upstairs and downstairs sleep. We just moved her wherever we were going. We went with one of the plastic/woolen ones rather than the wicker basket as we heard the wicker baskets made too much noise when you moved them and would wake a sleeping baby. We loved it! It was so convenient to move baby to wherever we were in the house. Weā€™ll be doing the same with our second. Once they outgrew their moses basket we transitioned them straight to their crib in our bedroom.

We didnā€™t have a Moses basket for our first and didnā€™t miss it as she basically refused to sleep anywhere that wasnā€™t on me or my partner for the first 6 months. (Sling or just holding her). Occasionally we put her in the pram carry cot but she never really slept in there (or in any form of cot/basket) successfully. I donā€™t think it is realistic for a newborn to sleep in a different from from you, but it also might not be realistic that they sleep in a Moses basket :)

We had a Moses basket with my 1st, and I think we used it twice. I think she slept more in arms, and then later in the Next To Me. Altho I will think about it again this time, as Iā€™ll likely need somewhere to put baby down, if I need to go to my 2yo.

I had a Moses basket when my 3yo daughter was born. For this one we have a next to me crib but weā€™re getting a Moses basket to go into the living room for day time naps but if that donā€™t work out as my toddler is a very hyper child and we also have a cat, weā€™d be getting a baby monitor in case we decide to let our youngest have day naps in the bedroom instead ahah. Also with the next to me crib being so big weā€™re getting a baby nest so sheā€™s tucked and safe when sheā€™s sleeping x
