IF the baby has problems latching (which is noticed very early on), they would’ve recommend a tongue tie. Him at now 8 months old gagging from lumpy food could just be a texture/sensory problem if he did fine with latching. Not every baby that has a tongue tie needs it snipped. We personally did not give more solid foods till closer to 12 months as that’s around the time they come off the creamy puree food and formula. Just a thought. My daughter has a tongue and lip tie and we never got either sniped. She did have trouble eating in the beginning too, but now does not. She’s going on 3 years old.
Thanks everyone for your advice we gone private and got a appointment for him next week if it needs sniping it will get done on the same day x
I would definitely go and see a paediatrics oral surgeon to do the release due to your LOs age. My LO has his tongue released at 4 weeks we also used the tongue tie find a practictioner website but in my experience it wasnt great :( (i know many people that used it had their LOs are doing fine) the practitioner i had didnt really do a proper follow up or guide me in doing the right exercises. Long and short of it.. it reattached and i only noticed at 9 months due to the exact same reasons you mentioned around food. I had to get it redone at 11 months old and did it with a oral surgeon (dentist) who did it with a Co2 laser as there was alot of scar tissue from the previous one (done on my dining room table by midwifes using scissors.. which is quite typical but i would never do it again that way). PM me if you want more info about where i went and the process of doing it with an older baby
@Shakira thank you he’s got a appointment this morning and could be having it snipped today x
I would go to a private tongue tie practitioner, he is not too old at all ! We went private and it was about £190 (at the time) https://www.tongue-tie.org.uk/find-a-practitioner I used this website, we had a lovely women who did my daughters, very much worth it x
