Start with your GP, they'll have you take the edinburgh test. There's lots of options available in terms of therapy and in patient stays - your GP can direct you :)
MCHN also put me in contact with different supports available but you def need the go referral to claim through Medicare
I just need someone to talk to. I've become a horrible person and feel like it's affecting my children. My marriage is failing and I have no family or friends around me.
I tried to go to a gp for my previous ppd but she said she doesn't want that on my health record... it's made me feel if I do start a mental health record could it potentially affect things like custody or buying/renting a home?
I know the main things I need to do... sleeping better don't go to bed late. Get sun and fresh air. Exercise. Eat better. Get of my phone and socials. It's just so hard to find the motivation to do anything and I don't know how to do it.
It sounds like you need a new gp. You need support
I was referred to someone health. They’re online therapists that bulk bulk for some sessions. They run across a number of times/days, you get to view profiles before you pick which therapist you want. There’s nothing to be ashamed of in seeking help. I’m so proud of you for having the strength to recognise it and seek help. My inbox is always open if you (or anyone here) needs to talk or vent whatever you need xx
I had Gidget House recommended to me if needed, but I believe you need a referral. I don't get why your doctor would say that to you. I'm pretty sure seeking help is the right thing to do, which you are. I'd definitely be seeking a new doctor. Hopefully, you can get the help you need! 💖
If you still see child health nurse they can also refer you to services that can help, or a perinatal mental health nurse can also refer you to a perinatal psychologist/psychiatric.
i use goodminds.com.au i've started with fantastic physcologist
Re health record, I’ve both rented and bought a home and neither time have I ever been asked for my health record. They check your bank accounts to make sure you can pay it! That’s it! Otherwise I went through Gidget, started with PANDA who advised me I need a referral for Gidget. It saved my soul!! There is a wait list but once I got there with that plus medication, I’m in a much better place and those normal hygiene things came once I got the deeper issues resolved.
Hi mama. Reach out to your primary healthcare provider - typically a GP. If you have a regular GP they’ll be able to get you in touch with services and support that can help you with how you’re feeling. They may even organise a referral for a specific support service, like the Gidget foundation, which offers specialised support to postpartum women experiencing heightened feelings and emotions. Depending on whether you’re still in contact with your maternity team, you can speak to your midwife, maternal health nurse, obstetrician etc You can always contact PANDA 1300 726 306 or Lifeline 13 11 14 if you’d like anon support. Otherwise, lean on a trusted friend or family member and they may be able to guide you. It is best to get professional support though. I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way, but please know you’re not alone and that your feelings are so common amongst us mums. I hope you get the support you desire 🤍
