Spin classes

4 weeks 2 days pregnant, I do spin class 3 times a week. I’m still wanting to keep this up during pregnancy, I’ve read it’s safe to do if you slow down slightly etc. is this correct? Didn’t work out at all during my last pregnancy and gained so much weight and was super unhappy.

My mw said continue workouts as normal, but avoid heavy straining, impact to the torso, and holding my breath longer than normal. I was able to continue running and pilates until 20 weeks then swapped to swimming and yoga due to issues with my hips and back. I also stopped weighting myself due to anxiety about weight gain...easier said then done.

Spin is super low impact so you’re absolutely fine. Just listen to your body, stop if you need to stop, take rest days when you need them and don’t go hell for leather if that’s what you usually do - keep a little energy in the tank, especially in the first trimester as you get so tired. The benefits of exercising during pregnancy outweigh the risks IMO. It’s more when you’re beginning to show that you need to adapt certain movements (no burpees, core crunching etc) and reduce the weights etc. but if you’re just spinning then you can absolutely keep that going! I wasn’t able to workout in the first trimester after about week 8 as I felt so unwell and the impact this had to me mentally was awful. I felt instantly better in every way once I was able to get back into it in the second trimester - also helps with the aches and pains that inevitably come! :)

I did spin once a week up to 36 weeks used to watch my heart rate and avoid getting over 160. 1 spin, 1 pilates and walking

I did spinning till the last week of my pregnancy. I just avoided leaning over the handles - bending over movement . Just see what is comfortable and don't get your heart rate too high.

Yeh you definitely have to adapt a little when your bump starts to get in the way a little. Ib also found sprinting a bit too much so I'd just keep the resistance higher and go slower. And I used to go toilet half way through every week
