Travel cot- mattress needed and any recommendations this is to be checked in at the airport.

Hey all! I have been looking at a travel cot for our holiday next month. Im looking on FB market place and none of them come with a mattress- just the hard base. After researching I can see the hard base is in fact the mattress 😐. That's horrible, it looks hard and uncomfortable. But thinking about travelling does anyone have a mattress for their TC, if you do, what do you do with the mattress when travelling or checking it in at the airport? Confused.com! Also any recommendations on cots!

Hi! Yeah all travel cots come with thin mattresses so that they’re easily foldable and can be packed away easily. If you get another mattress, you may have to check it in separately to the travel cot as it won’t fold down with it, I also think it’ll just be a faff for you? Lugging an extra mattress around. Are you staying at a hotel? Do they not have a travel cot you could use? That’s largely what we’ve done and they also come with proper mattresses usually as well.

I just got a nice matress protector for ours, she slept in our travel cot for the first 6 months as it was also a basinette no issues

@Emma yep it will absolutely be a faff lol but it just looks so hard and uncomfortable I feel bad.. yh I will email the hotel to check but also I'm a bit weird about hygiene.. if another baby has vomited/ had a poo explosion or weed on the mattress it is not hygienic. I think I would prefer to take one to be honest and just pack a thickish blanket to ' line' it

@Amy do you remember what one it was so i can have a look. Thank you

We have the joie kubbie

We have the Joie Kubbie, and it only has the thin mattress but she sleeps absolutely fine in it! But it’s so easy to carry and take away!

I have the baby elegance air2 travel cot, we’ve used it abroad since our baby was 7 weeks, we always take it now so it’s been on 8 journeys, we absolutely love it and baby sleeps so well in it. The mattress isn’t a hard base, it’s a soft (but firm) mattress which is fab for a travel cot. It only weighs 6kg I think it is and folds down into a bag about the size of a cabin suitcase. Would really recommend it â˜ș

I use a travel cot mattress topper that Folds down into the travel cot bag - it’s perfect

Hi, i have a cot for sale! our little one only used it for about two months!

I totally get what you’re saying on hygiene but cots provided are usually the wooden type so they can be wiped down with antibacterial wipes and we take our own mattress protector and sheets. Double up if you like that way they won’t ever come into contact with the actual mattress

@christina which cot please?

@Emma ahh OK good to know. I'll look for a mattress protector

@Beth I'm going to look for that now. Thank you

@Hannah ohh this sounds great. OK I'm searching for that one

@Emily OK good to know. Thank you x
