You should have a meeting with a nutritionist when you get your test kit which is helpful. In the meantime avoid sugar and cut down carbs. Carbs used to spike my sugars a lot! They’ll probably want to book you in for induction, usually 41 weeks. I ended up having a csection due to reduced movements which is a red flag for GD babies as they get tired but know lots of people who have had natural births like they planned. They’ll test you and baby a couple of times after birth x
There’s a gestational diabetes UK website that I found really helpful! Gave me loads of meal ideas - brown bread and high fat and protein items like Greek yoghurt or protein yoghurts (full fat as it’s lower in sugar) I found most things were fine for me but I just cut back on saucy things like pasta sauces and tomatoes etc Slightly less carbs and more veg seemed to work as well! For dessert I would have double cream poured over blueberries and raspberries with a protein bar broken up into it & it always hit the spot and never spiked my sugars! Hopefully you’ll be ok, 37 weeks is fairly late into pregnancy so hopefully you won’t have to do it for long 😁 I was diagnosed at 28 weeks! Hard work haha x
I have GD. I was diagnosed at 24 weeeks. You should be offered a nutritionist appointment and you should get a testing kit to test your blood sugars. Once you have that you can then see what spikes yours the most as everyone is a bit different. I have it quite severely (I’m on 4 injections of insulin a day) and I can eat whole wheat pasta, and brown rice, veggies, nuts, sauces, eggs, meat, beans. I make all my food from scratch. I cant eat any sort of cereal, potato, fruit, pulses, oats etc as massively gives me a spike. As I say everyone is different but until you get your testing kit obvs avoid sugar, and change to whole wheat carbs and just have smallish amounts
Thanks everyone! I have had the initial appointment and get the testing kit. I am trying different foods to see what spikes.
I got diagnosed around 35 weeks I think it was (after a 2nd test), I didn't change anything food and drink wise tbh as no one gave any information but my sugar levels were always in range. Birth was induced at 38 weeks and kept in 24+ hrs to monitor levels for me and baby. I wouldn't worry about it, it will be fine x
