My little girl is 4 weeks old and has been really difficult to feed. Keeps latching on and off, crying during feeds, never seems really full or satisfied. Do you think my milk supply is low and I need to top up with formula? Or is she cluster feeding to try and up my supply?

I know this may not be the case for you as it could be a variety of reasons but I had almost the same experience in my first few weeks and it turned out my LO had a slight tongue tie and therefore wasn’t latching fully and it was using too much energy for him to feed. We didn’t get seen till he was 8 weeks and by that point I’d given up and was formula feeding😂 So perhaps just get your HV to have a look, could be that or could be something else but worth a try x

Also, have you tried expressing at all? that might be a good way to figure out your supply and if it is that? X

Had same thing and found my let down a bit strong When I expressed a little bit out before feeds it got better! You tend to have over supply more than under.. if your baby has wet lips or milk round mouth after feeding sign you’re giving them enough

@Annie great idea! I did find that what I expressed isn’t always reflective of what I gave her

True low supply is extremely rare! There are normally other issues that are causing a supply problem that can be resolved. I would recommend seeing a lactation consultant so they can assess your latch and everything else xxx best of luck
