Cot

My partner was being silly with little one and decided to jump into her cot with her (literally jump into it 🤦🏻‍♀️!!) and has broken half the wooden slats on the cot. Thinking of just taking this time to transition to a toddler bed or floor bed. Has anyone done this yet? I see lots of things about floor beds but what are the actual benefits of a floor bed over a toddler bed? Thanks

Floor bed vs toddler generally has 2 benefits. Floor beds can be bigger than toddler beds and because there is no drop/step, LO can be put in it from a younger age as there is no danger of them falling out of a floor bed. My son has been in a toddler bed since just before Xmas (when he isn't co-sleepint when ill) because he became terrified of the cot with separation anxiety. As soon as we made his toddler he was in love with it because he could climb out, come check on us and then get back in it or stay with us. Basically he had freedom to move around at will instead of being "caged". We can't have a floor bed as I have a back injury and wouldn't be able to reach him on the floor for snuggles at bedtime.

My 7.5 month old is already on a floor-bed ☺️ there’s no timeframe for it. In general, floor beds are a Montessori aligned approach of fostering independence in your child. They allow your child to move around freely, and come in and out of the bed as they please rather than relying on an adult to assist them. You can get big ones so you or your partner can also lay with your little one :)
