Hungry

My 2 week old baby is on formula. I give him whatever measurements it says on the box for his age. He doesnt always finish the bottle but 1.5/2 hours later, he’s crying cause he’s hungry and sucking on his fingers. Is this normal?

Totally normal. They will feed every 2-3 hours when they are this little x

Very normal he’s still so little and will need a feed every 2-3 hours

@Maddi @Chloe do I still give him his normal amount of milk? X

Yes. I'd he is draining the bottle add another ounce on. The box is a guide that suits some babies not all (mine being one) x

They say to make up 1 extra ounce to what they feed, so if he drinks 2oz make 3oz, once he starts drinking 3oz at most feeds, make 4oz. If he’s hungry feed him, doesn’t matter how long in between feeds at this age, as he gets to about 3/4 months old then you’ll ideally want to be on feeding schedule of every 4 hours xxx

@Maddi he doesn’t actually drain the bottle he leaves a tiny little bit at the bottom but then about half hour later he’s crying, screaming and trying to suck on his fingers. Does this mean he’s still hungry? X

@Storme he starts crying again about half hour after his bottle, do I then make some more and give him it? Xxx

I would up his bottles and see what he does. Also give him a good burp and keep him upright as it might be a bit of reflux unsettling him or trapped wind x

@Maddi he’s got really bad wind, and is constipated. It’s not even been 2 hours and I’ve had to give him another bottle as he was screaming! X

If it’s within the same hour you made the bottle then use the same bottle, if he has none left then perhaps he is wanting a bigger bottle. My lb would drink his bottle little by little over the hour that the bottle is ‘safe’ for. Hes just the same as us adults, starter, main, dessert but it’s just milk. We wouldn’t sit and it all in one go we pace ourselves over an hour or two - this is how I see it anyway xxx

@Storme baby formula is okay for 2 hours x

He could be colic? X

@Chloe if not been used it has a 2 hour life, if baby has already had some, you shouldn’t keep for longer than an hour as germs start to grow on the teat xx

For tummy problems lots of bicycle legs and look at tummy massage. We did a baby massage class and it he is a bit bunged up i give him a massage and within a few hours we have a humongous poo. Or try giving a ready made bottle to help things move along. Remember everything is still so new to their little tummies and it's a struggle for them. What formula are you using? We had aptamil but found it too rich for his tummy so switched to cow and gate x

@Maddi haha the opposite to you! I was giving him cow and gate but he kept throwing up with it so I switched to aptamil x
