@Noelle Nothing has ever happened except that he doesn't use his little seat anymore since he outgrew it. He has a couple of bath toys, but they don't seem to interest him.
So my daughter has gained a fear of the bath because she has an ear infection. Im pretty sure it’s because the water hurts her ears when I wash her hair. (Before I knew of the ear infection) She started not wanting anything to do with the bath. Screaming and crying. Today I got on a swimsuit. Bought her a mermaid Barbie. Got bath crayons. Got a sponge for the bath(loofah). Got some toys for the tub. Turned on the shower instead of making a bath. Put her in the bathroom by the tub. Got in the tub myself and played with her Barbie. I washed the Barbie’s hair. Played with the bath crayons. My daughter watched and was like “oh wow” I said do you wanna come in and help the Barbie wash her hair? It took a few times but she let me put her in. I sponge bathed her and put cotton balls in her ears and used the loofah to wash her hair and a rag to get the soap out. It worked and my daughter didn’t cry once. By the end we were washing the Barbie’s hair still and drawing. We had fun.
I bought one of those headbands for the bath it comes in Wednesday hoping we can avoid the ears with that and she not be scared. I recommend making it fun and joining! They realize that the water isn’t gonna hurt them. And this happened with a kid who LOVES water and LOVES the pool. But one mess up like swimmers ears can make them scared of it. I get it. She’s 19 months.
You could always trying bringing him in the shower with you! My girl loves playing at my feet and splashing in the water. Or you could get in the tub with him. I know that could feel silly but it could help him have a more positive attitude toward bath time. If you don’t feel like buying more or new bath toys, you could always bring some extra baking utensils. My girl loves to “cook” in the tub. I gave her a small muffin tin and bowls I never used along with some extra spatulas and spoons that I had laying around.
Make it fun and engaging, lots of positivity around it. I noticed you mentioned he outgrew his seat, has the crying been since then? Is the bottom of the tub slippery? You could try get some cute/fun non-slip mats for the bath as well. Add some bubbles or colours, things your LO likes/new toys. I let my kids sit in the tub as it fills up so they get used to the water filling up and when we are done I let them sit until the water is drained out - as it’s draining we do sing “bye bye water” - a remix of bye bye friends. My two littles (soon to be 3 & 2) have no issues with the bath
@Sharnee He cried after we removed his seat, and the bottom of the tub isn't slippery. Thanks for the advice.
My kid started showering from 18m, we pull the removable shower head all the way down to his height, and then when I wash his hair I take it off and direct it onto his hair. Still takes mainly showers now at 5, but sometimes he wants a bath (when we have time) w a bath bomb.
If you have a shower, see if he likes being in the shower. My lo started to like showers more since she can stand up and move around. Also new bath toys is a good idea - I got some bath books and it helps her stay calm when she needs to stay still so I can wash her hair.
Did something happen? You should add toys though my son loves bath time since a newborn but around 6 months i added bath toys remember to get the ones that dont get water inside
