Hair meltdown

Hiya, my wee guy has never liked having his haircut or brushed. He has had 6 haircuts in his life and each time he has had a complete meltdown, pretty much being restrained in the hairdressers chair just to get it done. It terrifies me having to go with him to these experiences. He even hates when I brush his hair at home but can get talked round with a distraction. Any tips or advice would be appreciated because he is well overdue and I'm sick of family commenting about his hair being in his eyes!

I have no tips but only to comment in solidarity. Exactly the same. He doesn’t mind me brushing/combing his hair and we can even pretend and play and say buzz which he finds really Funny but full meltdown wether he has his hair cut at home or the barbers scissors or clippers doesn’t make any difference 🫠

He can't even be in the room with an electric toothbrush being on because he thinks it's clippers 🤦🏼‍♀️ he has play scissors and cuts my hair but as soon as it's his turn he screams

Mine is the same. Currently just letting him grow it out 🙈 Keep offering to take him and he just turns me down

My son's the same some things that have helped are not going to the barbers, they are too busy and loud and always use clippers. I use a hairdresser with a lovely, extremely patient lady who scissor cuts it and doesn't use hairdryer etc. it's usually pretty quiet in there too so no others using hairdryers/clippers. Bought a barber set and we role play at home, watch shows and read books about haircuts. Watch his friends/ family have haircuts. Watch a show on his iPad whilst having it done and sits on my lap. We have gone from frantic hysterical screaming and crying to the point he was sick and physically fighting everyone off to whining and telling us he doesn't like it but sits and has it done for the most part. His hairdresser was actually so happy to see him cheer up and thank her after this time as usually he's telling her no leave me alone 🤣 x

I’m so in the same boat with this, it’s just traumatic and bloody difficult for everyone all round. The toy barber set is a good idea. It’s the clippers he struggled with but I want to find a way around it because he looks so good with it cut that way.
