Car seat

My little boy (4 months) HATES the car. Screams close to making himself sick! I’ve tried the aquarium, the happy song, every toy on his lap, the rokit, a sound machine, spinnys on the window. I’m out of options. Even when I sit in the back with him he screams. It’s harrowing. We have the cybex cloud T. Do I change his seat? Any help / ideas would be appreciated xx

This came up on my feed...have you taken the newborn insert out? 🤔

I was actually thinking that. It says 60cm+ and I’m not sure how long he is, I’ll give it a go! Thank you

We had/have this issue. My little one was IMPOSSIBLE in the car. IYKYK!! We went to see a cranial osteopath and recently I’ve seen a massive improvement. So it could be that your little one has some tension in his body making the car seat painful. My LO has now been discharged but we was still having some issues with the car seat which was put down to temper. But we have more good days than bad. My solution at the moment is driving with her window half way down to create white noise. Even the annoying buffer sound seems to help. But I’ve also attached a hand held fan to blow on her. She also has a white noise machine on. I have one of those black and white sensory toys hanging for her to look at. I’ve also tried Hey Bear baby sensory videos playing on the TV just while I try and strap her in. If I can get her into the car before the crying starts then we stand a chance of a quiet journey. But if she’s already crying then that’s it.

We also did some car seat training. I took all the inserts out of her car seat and laid a white sheet over the seat to disguise it. I then put her in the seat and played with bubbles and things to entertain her. I then took her out of the seat before she even started to get distressed. Anything to try and break the negative association with the car seat. Obviously if the seat is causing him pain then this isn’t going to make any difference. Hopefully you find some solution soon as I know how incredibly hard it is.

I have the same car seat. I would say take the newborn insert out. It will make a difference (check on the guidance first ie weight and length). This was a game changer for us. Also other things we did which helped. Time the car journeys when baby has been fed and changed and due a nap. Sounds random but my pjs that I wear the night before a journey, I take them off in the morning and basically wipe my scent over the car seat and then lay my pjs in the car seat until we go. That helped us as my challenge was my baby wanted to be held all the time. I’ve also seen someone who does cranial therapy which has helped other things for baby. Maybe see someone that specialises in this for babies and that may help. Hope this helps x
