Any advice… is this CMPA or normal?

Hi all, I’m a FTM to my little boy who’s 9 weeks. From 3 weeks he’s struggled with silent reflux and colic. He was put on gaviscon which seemed to help his symptoms but he gets really bad trapped wind and will cry from 4pm-8pm. He’s also recently developed eczema and he also used to arch his back after a feed and cry (this seems to settled down except for the evenings.) he’s a very gassy baby but I’m just wondering if this could be CMPA or if it’s normal baby things? He also really struggles to poo, he strains for hours and cries until he passes his poo but then the poo consistency is normal, it just takes him a while to get there. Any advice would be really appreciated x

I was told by health visitor that CMPA doesn’t start until 4 weeks, but I don’t know how true that is.. my little boy had all the same symptoms as yours from 4 weeks and we did four things: Probiotics, CMPA milk, osteopath and giving cold/room temp milk rather than warm. I still don’t know which one it is that’s helping tbh! His rashes still flare up every now and then regardless of his milk so I’m just using gentle products. He is definitely in more discomfort when I give him warm milk compared to cold, but this is different for each baby and we still struggle badly with silent reflux. I’d definitely recommend probiotics, we use optibac and an osteopath has been very helpful but understand it’s pricey. Another thing I think my little boy had that he’s now grown out of is something called dyschezia, we helped him through this with a dummy, stretches and lots of comforting.. but it was hard to watch! Hope this helps!

Yes it could be CMPA. Could also be signs of a tongue tie so probably worth getting that assessed by a specialist first because going down the CMPA route can be a battle - we have only just got our hospital appointment a year after referral 😅

Defo sounds like CMPA to me. Doctors kept telling me it was just reflux, colic, try anti reflux formula, pace feed, told I was overfeeding. My daughter didn’t go onto CMPA prescribed milk until she was 7 months old and as soon as she did, it all stopped. She hasn’t dietician now and confirmed CMPA. Defo push to trial a prescription milk early doors to see if it rules it out!

@Rachael I never got told it doesn’t start until 4 weeks 😱 We knew when he was around 3 weeks.

@Saskia definitely need to push!! Drs are so bad these days. I always say to them I know best I’m his mum. We got told so many times at the beginning we were overfeeding him and we definitely weren’t x
