We just had a chat, read pirate Pete & popped him in pants. First 3 days were 100% accidents but now he goes unprompted 90% of the time x
@Cal that’s great! How long until he stopped having 100% accidents, and did you do pants from the beginning?
Im about to start potty training, eith my toddler boy. Is there any advice u have? My mum in law thinks we need to stay inside for days and focus on that but i dont think that will work. Asny other approaches that have worked?
@Amy pants from day 1 (he picked little boxers from Asda) 🥰 Day 4 he just started going himself, unprompted. It was strange. 😂 Had accidents mostly when tired or really engaged in what he was doing. xx
@candice we stayed home for the first 5 days I think. If we did go out was straight after he’d been to the potty and not too far initially. But we did it between Christmas & NY so wasn’t really anywhere we wanted to go 🤣
I tried 2 attempts with my boy before he got the hang of it. First attempt I followed the steps from the oh crap potty training book and kept him at home for a week keeping his pants off for the first few days, but he was just not interested in going on the potty at all and kept weeing on the floor! Put nappy back on for a couple of months and tried again but the second time I put him in pants and said 'you're a big boy now so you don't need to wear nappies during the day anymore and you are going to start using the potty for wees and poos and I will help you'. Wees he picked up quite quickly but took him a few weeks to start doing poos and he did have quite a few accidents in his pants. I think putting him in pants helped because he didn't like the wetness after an accident and that prompted him to start going on the potty. We also made monster eyes to stick to his potty and called it the potty monster which made it fun for him 😊 he is now going by himself as and when he needs to x
We started on Monday and it was going really well, even had a day with 0 accidents but today we have had a backwards step.. I put her in pull ups because we had a full day out at a farm and since we have got home and i immediately changed her back to nickers she just keeps pissing on the floor and thinks it’s funny 🤦🏻♀️ managed to get her to do the last half of a wee on the potty before bed but we had at least 5 accidents between 5-7 .. hoping she gets back on track over the weekend!
We've been quite successful despite initially thinking it wasn't gonna work due to past times we've tried. This time tho we moved from a small floor potty that my son hated to a toilet seat and steps that he really took to. Then we had packs of stickers at the ready and let him choose and stick them around him on whatever while he was sat on the toilet, and initially he wouldn't wee but he got more comftable. We just done this in the evenings and took him when he wet himself to the toilet so he understood. Then the first wee we caught on the toilet we made a really big deal about. From there we just asked all the time, took him regularly even if he said no and then it just clicked and he would tell us he would need a wee. This process took about 1-2 weeks in progress as he's at Nursery so would wear a nappy in the day, and now we've had about 1 accident a day and normally it because we're too late to get to the toilet.
We did one day of no nappies or pants and asked every 5 minutes if they needed a wee. Then brought in pants day 2. Thea also got a stamp on her arm for every potty
Same boat. But we've took him off dummies and into toddler bed about 2/3 months ago. New baby on way start of May so also wary of pushing him too hard to thrn have yet another change (a big one!!)
I think toddlers can smell it when we expect something from them. I’d leave it for now not to scare her and try a couple months down the line x
